Someone mentioned here that with the x700, some long movies played via usb method can't be fast forwarded. Does it mean if we accidentally exit the movie midway, we have to watch again from the beginning? That sounds rough.

if i read the last pages, it seems to be that mkv lost the battle against dolby vision. am i right? there is no right way to play DV-files correctly with mkv?
the Firestick TV does it right but no FEL / lossless audio support.
Can you please link or tell me how to do that ? New to all this. Thanks

Hello everyone, sorry to bother you but I need your help. I spent the last weeks reading pages on pages, but I still have some doubts
This in my situation:

Room1: Oled LG E8
Room2: Shield Pro, Sony X800M2, HDFury Vertex2, Denon AVR, Epson TW9400

Right now I'm using MakeMKV to rip BD with Dolby Vision and without, store on nas, and watch them with Plex on LG E8 and Plex on Shield.
Tomorrow i'll receive the Sony X800M2 and from what I red, it looks like I can have better quality using this than using the Shield.

a- Am I correct or because my vpr in not DV and use the LLDV hack, nothing will change for me?

Talking about rips:

b- is there an easy way to rip BD with DV and play them with Oled LG E8 internal player? (Plex app on LG doesn't support mkv with DV)
c- when I'll use the drag and drop mpls tsmuxer method for ripping BD and play them on Sony X800M2, the final m2ts file, need to have only 1 video track or 2 is the right way?

Thanks in advance, and sorry for my english. I can speak it, but writing is a whole other story.

What's the benefit of playing bdmv folder instead of the m2ts file?
chapter support, forced flags for subs...
but even if I had the oppo i would still remux my file to TS/M2TS. I don't really care about chapters and forced subs are rare unless you don't watch the movies in English. Most of the time, forced English subs are hardcoded.

Forced subs are actually quite common in my experience. Just for starters, quite a few of the Marvel films. Sometimes they feature when you may not expect, like the scene early in Spiderman Homecoming where there are just two lines of Italian dialogue in the sandwich shop, but the subs are in a track. I could list loads of mainstream films that do not hardcode the forced subs.

so if I understand correctly, with the x700 playing the m2ts file via usb, the subs for those Italian lines will not appear because they are not hardcoded? Hmm that could be troublesome... I remember in The Inglorious Bastards for example, there are lot of hardcoded subs for non-English lines. Not sure if those are hardcoded or not.

Will using external subs help?

Really, the only solution for all your problems is the chinoppo.

No, you didn't understand correctly. Any subtitles track on the x700 work but you just have to activate them manually.
The x700 file playback is just unable to detect the forced flags in the container therefore, cannot activate the subs automatically.

Well, how much cost the chinoppo? where can you buy it ? is it Cinavia free?

the x700 is only 240USD and can easily be bought on amazon or less than 150USD used on ebay

DV is supported only in TS / M2TS / MP4 and bluray disc on the x700...
no BDMV support via USB
Good to know...
Follow-up on .ts format for x700. Do we use SL or DL?
Single Layer -> Dolby Vision, Version 1.0, dvhe.04.06, BL+EL+RPU, Blu-ray compatible / SMPTE ST 2086, HDR10 compatible
OR Dual Layer-> Video 1 -> SMPTE ST 2086, HDR10 compatible
Video 2 -> Dolby Vision, Version 1.0, dvhe.07.06, EL+RPU, Blu-ray compatible / SMPTE ST 2086, HDR10 compatible

And FWIW, would either of these perform BETTER than an MKV (GAMMA) on the Shield?

Well profile 04.06 is also dual layer DV but it's not the correct profile for DV with an HDR10 BL. It's used for SDR BL + EL DV

What you meant to ask is: should we use Single-Track Dual-layer profile 7 (same type as makemkv) or Dual-Track Dual-layer profile 7 (tsmuxer remux)?
on the x700, all the profiles are supported but some ST DL P7 files don't work while ALL the DT DL P7 files work.

So I prefer using:
OR Dual Layer-> Video 1 -> SMPTE ST 2086, HDR10 compatible
Video 2 -> Dolby Vision, Version 1.0, dvhe.07.06, EL+RPU, Blu-ray compatible / SMPTE ST 2086, HDR10 compatible

Thanks. So - Latest TSMuxer release (JustDan) is the perfect way to go creating DT DL P7.
Final question - your signature refers to a .TS file from DolbyLabs (I downloaded) and you refer to it "fixing" a DL problem on the x700? I'm confused based on what you say above...

yeah, the TS/M2TS files created by tsMuxer have a bug.
When you stop playback of a DT-DL TS file, the next file you play will have a green or purple tint on it. The x700 and the Oppo somehow get locked in that mode and only(besides rebooting) playing the TS demo file in my signature will unlock the player. I think playing back an original UHD-BD should unlock the player as well.

Now that it is clear that the Shield/CX has a problem with DV, does it make sense to remux the DV releases to HDR10 (drop the EL+RPU layer)? Or is what we are seeing equivalent to HDR10, only labelled as DV?
