I made this account, just so I could thank you. Your post made it so easy to do this, it was a breeze (after reading about how hard it is to flash this drive). If someone buys this drive off of Amazon recently (like i did), this guide will definetly work. Thanks again!

Download the zip below - open the flasher tool. Select the folder with the arrow in it and select the firmware that says 3.10 in the title. Flash it. Restart. Then flash the second firmware in it - which has the correct model name in it and is UHD friendly courtesy of our genius friends here in the forums.
Does this mean the downgrading is complete after flashing the second firmware (WH16NS40-NS50-1.03) on it or do you recommend to then downgrade further and flash either WH16NS40_1.02_NS50 or WH16NS60 1.02MK on it?
I have not fully understood if the second firmware "only" restores the capability to further downgrade or contains a 1.03 MK version which concludes the downgrading.
For example: https://www.makemkv.com/forum/viewtopic ... 16&t=19634 recommends
"Recommended Firmware to flash for MakeMKV:
WH16NS60 > WH16NS60 1.02MK
WH14NS40 > WH16NS60 1.02MK
WH16NS40 > WH16NS60 1.02MK
BH16NS55 > WH16NS60 1.02MK
..."

please dont follow this guide
as my guide says flash Directly to WH16NS60 1.02MK if you meet all the other requirements this guide was never relevant.

Know this is the older thread but was looking into libredrive, and enabling...

Why do the newer versions suck? Specific behavior, error, or performance?

Would like to be informed to avoid potential issues in the future.

Is there any reason to upgrade an NS40 from 1.02 to 1.03 or am I best to leave 1.02 on it?

Leave it if it's working

For anyone looking - I read through pages and pages of forum posts to bring you this one simple and easily understood set of paragraphs - I bought an LG WH16NS40 with 1.04 firmware on it, and rented two 4k blu-rays. The drive would not even recognize the disc was present after spinning up.
Long story short -

Download the zip below - open the flasher tool. Select the folder with the arrow in it and select the firmware that says 3.10 in the title. Flash it. Restart. Then flash the second firmware in it - which has the correct model name in it and is UHD friendly courtesy of our genius friends here in the forums. Thank you, you all have helped greatly.

Warning Read this FULLY Before using this flasher> https://www.makemkv.com/forum/viewtopic ... 16&t=19634
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1hrKH-o ... sp=sharing
So I've always had issues with this particular drive not reading discs randomly and thought i would give this firmware update a try. I shave the WH16NS40 that showed NS50 SVC code, and updated to this 3.10 fw and now its showing as an asus and is dead? Device manager shows it as working, drive ejects but is otherwise non-responsive. Doesn't see discs?

Is there anyway to force the fw back to the LG 1.02?

Please and thank you.

As my comment stated, it has already been updated to 3.10 an ASUS 16D1HT. Please respond if you know how I can change the firmware. The link you provided does not work, looks like the URL got botched somehow.

If thats a thread that will flash my ASUS back to a diff firmware to recover, great.
