VLC can read UHD disc, but not MakeMKV backup

Not sure where to begin. I scoured the forum, but didn't find anything.

I have a UHD Blu-ray (The Hobbit 1). I have a drive that I flashed with the MK firmware (see drive info below). I can read the disc fine within VLC (I used the MakeMKV libraries inside VLC).

However, when I point VLC to a backup of the disc made with MakeMKV, VLC does nothing. It just outputs a bunch of files in the playlist. I did make sure to check "decrypt video files" when making the backup. So why can VLC play the disc itself but not the backup? I don't see an error message, so I'm not sure where to begin.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

You need to tell VLC to open your backup of the disk as a disk, i.e. "Media/Open Disc..." menu, and then select your backup directory as the disk root.
