Dear Asmcom Team,
I would like to buy a external Pioneer 4k UltraHD drive. My country of residence is Germany.

I am not quite familiar to the ripping process of BluRays, but I would like to give it a try. I have both linux and Windows systems and would like to make archives of my disks. Which external drive would you recommend?

Thank you in advance.

Tried piggybacking on another post recommending Asmcom, but the post never got approved for some reason, so redoing it in parts here, in hopes that it gets approved:

Bought 2 (yes two) x Pioneer Premium BDR-XS07TUHD External Blu-ray Drives from Asmcom, and after a bit of confusion on my part, I got fairly quick answers from asmcom & co, and once paid, the drives arrived within 4 or 5 days (to Denmark).
The drives looks brand new, and I've tested that I can read/rip Aliens 4K (after downloading the keydb.cfg), and a normal DVD.

All in all I'm very satisfied with the service, and the product, and can therefore give my recommendation to Asmcom & co.

Now the time consuming task begins, ripping all the discs.

Any suggestions for an internal Pioneer just for ripping BD 4Ks with makemkv? I missed out at the beginning of the year with Asmcom so would like get something to replace my dead LG before Christmas.

I made the mistake of deleting the rips as I had everything 'safe' on my Plex server. Then I f'd up an update and lost a few 100 films..... I'm really looking forward to re-ripping everything......

Morning Asmcom,

just bought and started using an Asus;

Serial number: CHDL098321WL
Firmware date: 2020-07-21
Bus encryption flags: 1B
Highest AACS version: 70

LibreDrive Information

and of course it wont read any of my 4K UHD's and also a few sandard BD's like The Road.

Can you suggest a drive that will or a solution? I would have PM'd but alas a newbie :)

Sure, Des. Send us an email, and we can advise you of a good drive. Asmcom is having no luck with his ongoing illness, but we are still here.

I ordered a Pioneer BDR-213EBK Blu-ray optical drive with BDR-S13JX firmware 1-03 from Asmcom, it arrived very quickly. Installed in my external drive enclosure and it works perfectly with MakeMKV. Great service and communication.

I’m deciding between this flimsy-looking slimline drive from an eBay seller and a new, full-size internal drive from ASUS, a brand that's never let me down. My instinct says to go with ASUS, but feedback here makes me wonder if the slimline drive might actually be a better choice?

you have to remember asus does not make optical drives they rebrand them from LG.
