Help with 4K BluRay Burner - ?????

#1 Post by oharag » Sat May 04, 2024 6:48 pm

So I got back into ripping my old DVDs to Plex. I have an old Pioneer BDR-XD05S that is a LibreDrive. I truly forgot how I got there - don't remember flashing it. But it does work great.

I'm now interested in purchasing a 4k HD Blu-ray DVD reader/burner. I would like to purchase the most recent Pioneer since they seem like good reliable drives - but just came across the post here with issues with Pioneers latest firmware breaking LibreDrive.

So a simple question - what is the best 4K HD Blu-ray reader/burner (external - USB - MacOS support) the still supports LibreDrive?

You can probably still buy a modern LibreDrive-compatible Pioneer from one of the sellers who advertise on this forum.

I have a modern Pioneer drive I purchased from a seller here connected to my Mac via USB. It is an internal drive, a Pioneer BDR-S13UBK, that is in a Vantec enclosure.

I've never used the drive to burn a disc, although I'm sure it could.
