As the first post of this thread, from mike, the admin, just says "none of the Pioneer drives require firmware update - they should just work"...
Regarding his explanations, it may just work without firmware upgrade.

That post from Mike is talking about enabling libredrive. People need to realize that libredrive does not equal UHD readability. Your drive will never work for UHD without cross-flashing it to the UHD model BDR-UD04. It's as simple as that.

in my old drives I found a Pioneer BDR-S09XLT which I had purchased in 2016. After reading this I had hopes it could be used for reading UHD discs.
So I hooked it up through a spare USB-adapter and ran MakeMKV. The drive is detected but MakeMKV doesn't display any LibreDrive Information - the whole section is just missing - the following is all that is displayed:

Because I thought it wouldn't be capable to handle UHD's I recently bought a new BD-RE BH16NS40 and flashed it succesfully with DE_LG_WH16NS60_1.02_MK firm. But now I have started Make MKV and I see this message-Box with my Pioneer:





Does that mean it can Read / Rip UHDs and I didn't need to buy the LG-Drive?
Unfortuately I do not have any UHD Disc to try it on my own - have to buy one first

The pioneer needs to be flashed to do UHD email me for an automated flasher

LibreDrive enabled does not equal UHD readability!! It needs cross-flashing to be able to read UHD discs.

Hey everyone. Just got a new Pioneer BDR-S13U through asmcom and it works like a charm right out of the box. It was on the expensive side ordering from Canada, but it arrived quickly in excellent condition. I do notice with these pioneer drives that I don't get any freezes when playing UHD discs, so kudos for these drives. I tend to play my discs, not rip them.
