Hi, I would like to know if it is possible to upgrade the drive to read 4K UHD, please.
I'm a little bit confused currently: Do all drives with the firmare version 1.03 or newer don't work regardless of the firmware data even if it's before december 2022?
Currently my BDR-XD07 is at version 1.03 but the release was at 2020-08-20 and LibreDrive is Enabled.

Thank's for your help.

So I finally decided to purchase MakeMKV. It was working great for me. I purchased it, and while doing so because I was going to rip a bunch of Blu-Rays I thought I'd look for an updated firmware. There was one for my Pioneer BDR-XD07U, so I flashed it because I hadn't touched in a while, and typical self thinks BD's need updating to keep relevant. Maybe not. Now I can't rip any BD-R's. It was 1.04 but now it's 1.05.

Did I screw myself over by updating to 1.05? Is there a way to fix this? Thanks for any assistance.

Nooooo! The one thing I read again and again... do NOT update the firmware.

Yeah sadly that drive is ruined for ripping UHD in makemkv for now.

Good news is I still have pioneers with old fw available see below

Is there a hope for Pioneer BDR-XS08MB-S for Blu Ray 4k ripping?

No matter 1.00 or 1.01 firmware......this unit is born already locked for libedrive but MakeMKV still tells Libredrive is not yet enabled!

I hope that future versions of MakeMKV that should implement Libredrive V2 will unlock BDR-XS08MB-S Blu Ray 4k ripping feature.

I own a Pioneer BDR-XD08U which is LibreDrive-compatible:

Code: Select all

Drive Information
OS device name: /dev/sr1
Current profile: BD-ROM
Manufacturer: PIONEER
Product: BD-RW BDR-XD08U
Revision: 1.01
Serial number: XXXXXXXXXXXX
Firmware date: 2022-10-11
Bus encryption flags: 1B
Highest AACS version: 81

LibreDrive Information
Status: Enabled
Drive platform: RS9331
Firmware name: PIONEER BDR-BDS8
Firmware type: Original (unpatched)
Firmware version: 1.01/ID05
DVD all regions: Yes
BD raw data read: Yes
BD raw metadata read: Yes
Unrestricted read speed: Yes
The critical point is the firmware date, which must be before 2022-12-01. There are probably fewer of such BDR-X?08 series units available, but they do exist from savvy sellers.

Post your Makemkv info.

Look at this thread i opened 1 year ago! My unit is directly from Japan (Amazon Japan)

viewtopic.php?f=19&t=30798

It s a drive launched after the timeline of the Pioneer encrypted firmwares so for now it's not libredrive open!

It's a great drive apart the fact i can't rip 4k BD (yet)!

Hope support will be added soon!

It's not BDR-XD08 it's BDR-XS08

S units are "SLOT" units and much better than D series in a bunch of ways....top of the premium drives from Pioneer!

BDR-XS08 born with 1.00 firmware version that is already encrypted and it's not opened to libredrive!

A 1.01 firmware was released for XS08 but obviously is the same of 1.00!

My drive had 1.00 firmware from factory! I upgraded to 1.01 just because 1.00 was already locked to libredrive (i not so fool if it wasn't) and 1.01 improves disc writing!

Post your Makemkv info. Your old post shows a firmware before December 2022 - which is not scrambled.
