Hi guys,

I recently purchased a BDR-212UBK and it looks like may not be supported (currently using SDF v88). Do I need to dump the firmware or update the firmware on the drive?

Makemkv reports the drive as:
Drive Information
OS device name: /dev/sr0
Current profile: BD-ROM
Manufacturer: PIONEER
Product: BD-RW BDR-212U
Revision: 1.00
Serial number: SLDL00XXXXXX
Firmware date: 2019-01-10
Bus encryption flags: 1B
Highest AACS version: 76

LibreDrive Information
Status: Possible, not yet enabled
Drive platform: Pioneer RS8F01
Firmware version: ID58
Compatible firmware versions are in the first post. If yours isn't there, contact Mike so he can dump it from your drive and add it to the list.
Cheers :D

Please contact Mike to complete his lists of supported firmwares. However, you can also update to 1.01 using the Pioneer firmware update utility for your drive:

I can confirm Verbatim #43888 is LibreDrive capable external Pioneer drive. I had it on 1.14 firmware (2020-06-15) from the box matching the following entry.

Code: Select all

PIONEER-BD-RW___BDR-UD04-1.14-489CDFD6-8A10-20200615
Although it does not matter MakeMKV this drive seems to be official 4K UHD BD drive with AACS2 keys for e.g. proper SGX/PowerDVD Ultra usage (don't bother :D). There are at least two model number variations and #43888 is the official UHD BD drive.
LG BH16NS55 (w/ WH16NS60 1.02MK) in external enclosure
LG BU40N (1.03MK) in external enclosure
Verbatim #43888 (Pioneer BDR-UD04 FW1.14)

Contact Mike. Yours should work. Maybe a special firmware variant.

List the Makemkv status report. Maybe your firmware version isn't supported.

That's because your drive isn't a UHD model and doesn't natively read UHD discs.

You are right Marty. The drive's names have to include the letter "U" to work with UHDs.

No, libredrive won’t pass everything. It stops a drive from being revoked with new AACS revisions and re-enables UHD disc reading within a drive’s firmware if it could already recognise a UHD disc. The AACS encryption/decryption process still works the same as always. Libredrive doesn’t change that.

As mentioned before, your drive isn't a UHD model and doesn't natively read UHD discs.
Cheers :D

Hello, I'm new to this so sorry if I don't understand everything.
I have a Verbatim drive that is a rebranded Pioneer drive. It should be supported for libredrive but it's not yet enabled. From what I understand, this means that Mike needs to add the firmware manually? Should I message him directly or is a post here enough?

Thanks a lot for the help, here is my drive info :

In other posts, he's asked people to PM or email him, which is probably what you should do in this case. For example: viewtopic.php?p=118847#p118847

hey guys
with the BDR-S12UHT now supported, could one argue this is the best drive to now get over the LG BH16NS55 and ASUS BW-16D1HT Pro (obviously flashed to make friendly)

Is there any benefits of having a friendly drive over a BDR-S12UHT official
