Newer UHD drives

Post by Anametureenthisiast » Mon Apr 22, 2019 2:16 pm

Hi All

I just bought a Bluray 4k bundled with a normal bluray and was wondering if anyone has experience with these newer asus bluray drives before I purchase (as id very much like to give UHD a go)

Here are 3 drives I've singled out

https://www.amazon.co.uk/ASUS-90DD01L0- ... way&sr=8-7

(by far the most expensive but its a bluray usb drive that wont need a caddy or adapter)

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Asus-BC-12D2HT ... way&sr=8-1

(bit of a budget option but again no adapter needed)

I know there is a list of UHD friendly drives its a bit old now and I see a lot of issues with drives with updated firmware so I just thought id check if anyone had any recent experience.

If both of those fail I assume this model is one of the UHD friendly ones listed in the forum post?

https://www.amazon.co.uk/BW-16D1HT-Inte ... way&sr=8-7

Thanks everyone for your help!

The first one, BW-16D1H-U, is not UHD-capable, and is explicitly listed as such in several messages posted here. It's a good unit, if you are not looking for UHD support.

Thanks, Is the Bottom one the bw16 still supported or is it now a dud due to firmware updates? I just saw mikes LG post and whilst they look like nice drives...£200 ouch!

The BW-16D1HT is an excellent drive. There are several DE and MK firmware versions available for it so even if it comes with the latest firmware you can downgrade it to be LibreDrive compliant and able to read all UHD's.

You can skip all that and just order one from me, Billy or Jason as well.

I would recommend buying the BC-12D2HT as it can be Cross-Flashed to BW-16D1HT and functionality will be the exact same. You pick these drives up very cheap and program yourself. I would be very happy to assist you and advise how to flash this drive. I could also sell you drive for £59.99 + postage UHD friendly
