Re: SDFtool Flasher
I have been trying to flash the LG BP50NB40 by using the SDFtool flasher on a Mac, using Windows via VMWare Fusion. I first flashed to the 1.03 firmware for my drive, and then to the BU40N-1.00 firmware via the Recover option on the tool, but it is not working. I feel like there was some mention about problems using the tool on a virtual machine, but I previously had luck flashing a Pioneer drive on VMWare, using the BDRFlash tool (thanks to coopervid for the help with that one!).

Not a VM problem. I've used VMware Fusion, Parallels & UTM on macOS to flash drives.mescalero wrote: ↑Tue Feb 24, 2026 11:03 pmI have been trying to flash the LG BP50NB40 by using the SDFtool flasher on a Mac, using Windows via VMWare Fusion. This is what MakeMKV is currently saying about the drive:

Carefully follow the animated GIF/video on the first page of this thread. You must select a firmware three times. Pay attention to the animated GIF & when/where a firmware is chosen, and what firmware is chosen.

Ah, got it! The part where you select the same firmware, but in Recover mode, is what threw me. Thanks a million.

Re: SDFtool Flasher
on mac unless your using a vm to flash
the method in the guide is much easier to crossflash where you use the hbd fw

Re: SDFtool Flasher
Hi there! Thanks so much for this great tool. I just flashed a Verbatim drive with a BU40N in it to 1.03. Testing now and its working well ripping a disc as we speak.
I'm going to try on a Buffalo drive that appears to have a BU40N in it too soon.
I did notice this and other sentences in the first page: "If your external Buffalo / Archgon / LG BU40N has encrypted firmware, flash BU40N 1.03-MK first, then you can either leave it as is or flash BU40N 1.00 or Buffalo BU / BN firmware if you want to."
I'm curious what the reason for dropping to 1.00 is. Is there some advantage to it over 1.03? Apologies if I've missed the explanation for this. I didn't see it in the first post and this is a very long thread...

Re: SDFtool Flasher
With the 1.00 you can use e.g. DVDFab also, which accept native 4K firmware only.DrOct wrote: ↑Wed Feb 25, 2026 8:26 pm....
