Before you begin, ensure you have MakeMKV v1.15.2 or greater installed and that the drive is empty and tray closed.

To flash the BP50NB40 SVC:NB52, using the latest SDFtool Flasher, follow the steps below:

1. Flash the drive to BP50NB40 (NB50) 1.03-MK.

Now for the cross-flash:

2. Select the RECOVERY option and in the pop up window, select the BP50NB40 (NB50) 1.03-MK firmware that you just flashed.
3. Select the BU40N 1.00 firmware in the normal drop box.
4. Click START

If you follow these steps exactly it should work.
Hey, where is this (BU40N 1.00) firmware you mention, as I only see in your (The all you need firmware pack) inside (LG slim BU40N) folder (HL-DT-ST-BD-RE_BU40N-1.03-NM00000-211810241934.bin) it is BU40N-1.03, not BU40N-1.00?.

I have a LG-BP50NB40 external slim Blu-ray player which is SVC:NB52. I flash it to HL-DT-ST-BD-RE_BP50NB40-NB50-1.03-NM00800-212005070917.bin, than recover it to DE_LG_BP60NB10_1.00_MK_HBD.bin, and I can read 4K discs, everything is working ok. But you mention (Also I recommend you use the BU40N 1.00 firmware as it is better than the BP60NB10 firmware.) What's the differences between DE_LG_BP60NB10_1.00_MK_HBD.bin and BU40N 1.00, should I flash it to BU40N, or stay with DE_LG_BP60NB10_1.00_MK_HBD.bin?
I don't know about Billy's "All you need firmware pack" but it is in mine! DL link on first page of this thread.

BU40N 1.00 is better than BP60NB10 firmware as it is compatible with all popular ripping software. BP60NB10 firmware only works with MakeMKV and AnyDVD software.
Oh I see, I downloaded a different pack which was (The all you need firmware pack) it didn't say (All You Need Firmware Pack (MartyMcNuts)

Are these the correct firmware for NB52 LG-BP50NB40 External Drive
Flash to > DE_LG_BP50NB40-NB50_1.03_MK.bin Than Recover to > DE_LG_BU40N_1.00.bin Is that correct?
My current drive is working and can read 4K, should I do it all over again overwrite flash, is it safe to do it all over again with these firmware?

If you want to use the BU40N 1.00 firmware, since you are already on BP60NB10 1.00 HBD, you can simply:

1. Using SDFtool Flasher, select your drive.
2. Select recovery. In the popup window, select the BP60NB10 1.00 HBD firmware that is currently on the drive.
3. Select the BU40N 1.00 firmware in the normal firmware selection drop down box.
4. Click START

I followed your exact steps, and it shows successful, but when I check MakeMKV drive info it still is Product: BD-RE BP60NB10, it's not BU40N 1.00 Firmware Am I missing or doing something wrong?

I am using the latest current Flasher, SDFtool Flasher (v1.3.5)

I also ticked included boot loader

I did exactly follow your steps, but it didn't change to BU40N 1.00 when I checked in MakeMKV, also I tried

flash to > DE_LG_BP50NB40-NB50_1.03_MK.bin
than
RECOVER, picked DE_LG_BP50NB40-NB50_1.03_MK.bin
than
Choose box below DE_LG_BU40N_1.00.bin
I click Start, it finish successful, I check MakeMKV info of my drive it still is,
Product: BD-RE BP60NB10 not BU40N 1.00
Revision: 1.00

What am I doing wrong, or am I missing something?

This is why you shouldn't use the hybrid firmware. I just remembered, there should be 2 HBD firmware files. One gets you to BP60NB10 1.00 MK which you have already done. The other should get the drive back to BP50NB40 firmware. You must flash that one first. Then see if you can flash it to BP50NB40 1.03-MK. Then follow the recovery steps as normal.
Cheers :D
