Greetings all!
I thought this would be a snap but doing something wrong ^_^

When trying to dump firmware, the file dumps as a .tar file, if I extract the tar file should I select one of the following .bin files to recover? Attempting the recovery method.

Issue of course is getting the No disc inserted error.
You didn't read the guide
Needs to be 2016+
You can recover select recover and follow the prompts and then flash your old fw not the backup the backup is useless pretty much
Well Darn,
Looks like I missed that aspect, looks like I'm buying a drive from you ^_^

Looks like I should have backed up the original firmmare that shipped with the drive?
Having no luck flashing with DE_LG_WH14NS40-NS50_1.02.bin from the "All you need firmware pack"

I appreciate the help Billycar11!

1. Drive is closed and no disc is inserted.
2. Drive is connected to a modern PC with a powered SATA to US3 convertor.

As I was advised to do a recovery could I be choosing the incorrect "wrong" firmware?

Understood, think buying one from you might be my better option, no need for this brick anymore.
Thanks so much for your help.

I have the BP50NB40 SVC:NB52 flashed to BP60NB10 1.00 MK but I've had some issues with a handful of discs whereas a Pioneer BDR-XS07UHD handles them just fine. Should I try to flash it to the BP60NB10 1.02 MK and if so can I just flash it using the WRITE option or do I need to do the RECOVER then select the BP50NB40 1.03 MK and then select the BP60NB10 1.02 MK to be flashed? Thanks in advance!

nah just leave it , its not going to help anything
but you would not need to use the recover option

Okay, I'll just leave it and keep trying different USB ports. Thanks for your input!

**EDIT, I'm deleting most of my original posts since the guide does work. I just didn't recognize how the RECOVER step functioned in the SDFtool.**

I just got the following drive. LG BP50NB40 MFG in Jan 2023, SVC Code: NB52

I have it plugged in via the USB on the front of my desktop, I followed the steps outlined in the UPDATE - 21/12/2021 that talks of this specific drive. The flash doesn't seem to stick.**

SPF tool shows the following when opened:
D: HL-DT-ST_BD-RE_BP50NB40_1.03_212005070917
MT1959 Platform: Green Check
Encrypted Firmware: Red X
Include boot loader? Box not checked

Following the steps:
1. Flash the drive to BP50NB40 (NB50) 1.03-MK.

I left it as WRITE Firmware and did not change any of the defaults above. I selected the firmware in step 1. Operation runs, completes, but the LibreDrive Info does not change.

2. Select the RECOVERY option and in the pop up, select the BP50NB40 (NB50) 1.03-MK firmware that you just flashed. (this part confused me since RECOVER immediately brings a pop-up to select the same firmware from step 1, I thought it was being glitchy)

3. Select the BP60NB10 1.00-MK or BU40N 1.00 firmware in the normal drop box.
4. Click START

** I deleted the rest of my original post. I was misunderstanding the RECOVER step.

Thanks again everyone for the help!

I left it as WRITE Firmware and did not change any of the defaults above. I selected the firmware in step 1. Operation runs, completes, but the LibreDrive Info does not change.

I did the same thing, but changed the Encrypted Firmware to a Green Check. Again no change.

I did the same thing, left the Encrypted Firmware as Green Check, and click Include boot loader. Again no change.

I did these steps anyway, and nothing happened here either.
Now for the crossflash:

2. Select the RECOVERY option and in the pop up, select the BP50NB40 (NB50) 1.03-MK firmware that you just flashed.
3. Select the BP60NB10 1.00-MK or BU40N 1.00 firmware in the normal drop box.
4. Click START

What do I do? It doesn't seem like i can even get past the starting line.....

The info from MakeMKV upon opening are outlined below. I don't think I'm this dense when it comes to these sorts of things, but I'm at a loss.

MakeMKV shows the following:

Thanks for the quick response!!!

I think I did what you said, but still no luck. Do I ever select the boot loader option, since this is NB52?

Here is my interpretation of the original guide based on your feedback just now:
Step 1
WRITE
Select my new drive:
D: HL-DT-ST_BD-RE_BP50NB40_1.03_212005070917
MT1959 Platform: Green Check
Encrypted Firmware: Change to Green Check
Include boot loader? Box not checked
Flash: DE_LG_BP50NB40-NB50_1.03_MK.bin
Hit Start, it runs, looks like it was happy.

MakeMKV drive info shows nothing different. Should it at this step?

Step 2
RECOVER
Select this drive again:
D: HL-DT-ST_BD-RE_BP50NB40_1.03_212005070917
MT1959 Platform: Green Check
Encrypted Firmware: Red X
Include boot loader? Box not checked
Flash: DE_LG_BP50NB40-NB50_1.03_MK.bin
Hit Start, it runs, looks like it was happy.

MakeMKV drive info shows nothing different. Should it at this step?

Step 3
WRITE
D: HL-DT-ST_BD-RE_BP50NB40_1.03_212005070917
MT1959 Platform: Green Check
Encrypted Firmware: Red X
Include boot loader? Box not checked
Flash: DE_LG_BP60NB10_1.00_MK.bin
Hit Start, it runs, looks like it was happy.

MakeMKV drive info shows nothing different. It definitely should at this point, right?!

Sorry if I'm being dense here, the original steps seem so straight forward but this drive doesn't seem to budge when I look at the Make MKV drive info.

Do I need to return this one and try another? Thanks in advance for any help here, very frustrated....
