so the problem that i encountered with BP60NB10 mostly on disk under 25gb sometime hash error and other "DEBUG: Code 3221225664 at jot[uQ>o.oH&@FAI:29399197" ???
i tried multiple 25gb disks to backup but the same so i guess the drive is damaged ?
I ordered cheap second drive LG WH14NS40 let hope it work...
LG's in general are quite well know for not being very good at writing to disc.
I recommend not writing to disc at all and use HDD storage for your movies.
so i sent the drive to local repair shop and they fix it, they said something about "reading header..."
now i flashed the drive back to BP60NB10 1.02 using recover mode but i get Scsi error so i tried to flash the drive to 1.01 using recover mode but the same i was about to give up, but last try to flash using write not recover mode to see if it work and wow work every time no hash error...
so i guess using recovery mode to switch between drive model firmware after that you still need to use write firmware to flash again...
Could someone point me to a good external drive for ripping UHD for mac? Hopefully something not too pricey, but good quality and easy to use...
Thanks a lot!
The very first post in this thread is the answer. I have both an ASUS and a LG in OWC Mercury Pro cases that work with my Mac. If you don't want to futz with it, any of the listed sellers on the first post will sell you a flashed and tested drive that'll work.

Hi, looking for some help please.
I’ve been reading back and forth on these forums for a while now and have a headache!
I have a BW-16D1HT that has been ripping Uhd’s without issue (out of the box) for a few years but it’s just wrecked a 4K disc whilst ripping it, I left it ripping and came back to it making a horrible noise and a burning smell. Ejected the disc and it was ruined, so rather than risk another disc i thought I’d replace it.
I have another BW-16D1HT new in the box that I had been given but it’s a old model (2014) on fw 1.01, can this unit be fw flashed to make it uhd friendly or Is that not possible on the pre 2015 units? will I need to buy a newer one?
And lastly what’s the best way to flash ASUS units? Is it the command prompt as shown at the opening of this thread or using MartyMcNuts flasher tool?
Thanks, Ian.
Very interesting, my WH16NS40 drive manufactured on May 11th 2020 apparently shipped with unencrypted firmware (1.04).
I tried flashing the MK WH16NS60 1.03 firmware with the encrypted flag, but MakeMKV still showed my original drive model and same drive firmware afterwards. I tried a couple times with the same results, only removing the enc flag did the trick.
The only reason I found it even remotely interesting was I believe all 2020 drive firmwares reported up to this point have been encrypted.
My commands below, user info removed. But now I'm up and running ripping 4K discs! Thanks for all the useful guide info.
Did not work: makemkvcon64.exe f --all-yes -d D: rawflash enc -i "HL-DT-ST-BD-RE_WH16NS60-1.03-NM00600-212005081010.bin"

No, that drive is too old to be flashed. Best get yourself a new drive! Oh, and of course, the SDFtool Flasher is easier than the command line.
Cheers

Hey guys, I used the old method provided by TeddyRaspin and a dosflash thing on my last two drives, but had one cook the other day, so I bought a new wh14ns40. I still have the firmware I ripped from my original drive (1.02 from a WH16NS40) and it worked on two wh14ns40 drives without a problem. Is it better to use that firmware or the wh16ns60 provided in the all you need firmware pack? Also, I have a vantec nexstar dx usb 3.0 enclosure. Can I flash using that?
While I'm at it, I'm a little confused as to the firmware versions. Does the MK FW preclude use of any other software, such as "the monkey"? I'm guessing not, but I do use their pass key software in conjunction with handbrake some times.
Was hoping for some help with my 16D1HT. Used the modified flasher tool to flash to 3.10mk from 3.10. The flasher was stuck at 90%. Left it overnight and was stuck in the morning. So, I quit the modified flasher tool. Now my revision on MakeMKV just says - BOOT.
Just want to post a quick thank you to everyone who makes this stuff, including the MK firmwares, the SDF GUI tool, makeMKV itself, et cetera... I'm a noob to the whole area of ripping and blu-ray DRM and the like, but I've been able to get into it quickly thanks to all your work. You all make the world a better place.
Hello all.
I am looking to fix my drive so that it can read UHD discs. I have a Mac mini running Big Sur OS and have not been able to figure it out. I read a ton of threads, so linking them will not help me. I just can't figure it out. Can anyone help me? Thanks in advance.
