Hello all, hope everything is well.
I recently ordered the Attack on Titan: The Last Attack DVD which came in 3 4K-UHD Blu-Ray discs. I had ordered them from Amazon as they were released in Japan only a few days ago and figured I would try ripping them with my LG WH16NS40 drive (I am somewhat new to ripping). I'm not sure if this is relevant or not, but the packaging and labels were all in Japanese as well, so I simply put the disc in my drive and opened up MakeMKV only to be confronted with this error in my log when I "clicked" on my drive icon:
MakeMKV v1.18.2 win(x64-release) started
Using LibreDrive mode (v06.3 id=7FA2657C7667)
Using direct disc access mode
Loaded content hash table, will verify integrity of M2TS files.
Saved AACS dump file as C:\Users\myUser/.MakeMKV/MKB20_v77_劇場版「進撃の巨人」完結編_THE_LAST_ATTACK_75FE.tgz
The volume key is unknown for this disc - video can't be decrypted
Failed to open disc
The disc has no scratches, and I cleaned it to try again (I'm sure that is not the issue) but kept hitting the same error. Here is my MakeMKV information window as well:

Does anyone have any ideas on how I can fix this? I haven't tried the other two discs since I figure I will run into the same error. I searched some of the recent posts and saw some users creating "dumps" but am not really sure if these methods apply to my situation or not. Thanks for your time and help.

Email the MKB20_v77_劇場版「進撃の巨人」完結編_THE_LAST_ATTACK_75FE.tgz file to svq@makemkv.com. You could also upload it into (say) OneDrive or Google Drive and then reply here with a public download link, which would allow people to try adding your disk to the public KEYDB.cfg file too.DJGlitterbunz wrote: ↑Sat Jan 24, 2026 7:35 amDoes anyone have any ideas on how I can fix this? To install KEYDB, download the latest KEYDB.cfg file, copy it into your C:\Users\myUser/.MakeMKV directory and then restart MakeMKV.

Re: 4K-UHD Blu-Ray Error: The volume key is unknown for this disc - video can't be decrypted
Hello.
Thank you, I emailed the zipped TGZ file, and I assume that I need to do the same for the other TGZ files for my other two discs?. About the public KEYDB, I just wanted to confirm that it doesn't matter in which language I download the KEYDB.cfg file, even if my disc has Japanese audio (or does that not matter either)? Apologies but this is my first time hearing about the public key database, are these simply used to decrypt discs or can these files be converted into video files of the movies/Blu-Rays (without needing the disc itself)? Finally, should I be replying the public download link to this thread specifically or that larger KEYDB thread? Thank you for your time and assistance, apologies again for the questions.

Correct, the keys are the same regardless of the language.DJGlitterbunz wrote: ↑Sun Jan 25, 2026 5:05 amAbout the public KEYDB, I just wanted to confirm that it doesn't matter in which language I download the KEYDB.cfg file, even if my disc has Japanese audio (or does that not matter either)?
The public KEDB.cfg file aims to contain the keys needed to decrypt that disk you bought, assuming you can also disable your UHD drive's bus encryption...DJGlitterbunz wrote: ↑Sun Jan 25, 2026 5:05 amApologies but this is my first time hearing about the public key database, are these simply used to decrypt discs or can these files be converted into video files of the movies/Blu-Rays (without needing the disc itself)?
It's best to post download links for TGZ dump files in the dedicated "Public KeyDB Disc Submissions" thread. There's also a template to follow when posting there, which is basically a check-list of things for each disk.DJGlitterbunz wrote: ↑Sun Jan 25, 2026 5:05 amFinally, should I be replying the public download link to this thread specifically or that larger KEYDB thread?
