Makemkv is useless
Re: Makemkv is useless
It's helpful but ultimately unnecessary to have FindVUK. You can download the keydb directly from the website. FindVUK just makes it easier to keep it up to date.

...and with the .bat file it's 1-2-3. No fumbling. All is done automatically.

Re: Makemkv is useless
So this kinda begs the question of why MakeMKV doesn't just download & use that key file directly instead of rolling its own?
Re: Makemkv is useless
Partly because KEYDB.cfg is a "legacy" format that contains less information than either MakeMKV's database or even FinkVUK's XML files.rkhollister wrote: ↑Mon Feb 19, 2024 8:38 pmSo this kinda begs the question of why MakeMKV doesn't just download & use that key file directly instead of rolling its own?
Re: Makemkv is useless
Because as kuel as the keydb is, and it is very very awesome, it's user generated. Meaning it requires people to upload keys. And that's hardly comprehensive of every single disc that someone may encounter. Whereas submitting a dump to MakeMKV submits the data necessary to always (AACS 2.1 notwithstanding) decrypt the keys. I'm just thankful Mike left support for reading the keydb in place.

Re: Makemkv is useless
Err, really? KEYDB.cfg doesn't contain any field for (say) whether the disc uses bus-encryption, whereas FindVUK's XML file does. Everything that comes after ";" in KEYDB.cfg is just a free-format comment.
Re: Makemkv is useless
EVERY UHD contains bus encryption so that's pointless. The only thing that REALLY matters is the decryption key(s) and the disc ID. It's not like you get to see all that great information from MakeMKV's hashed keys which are embedded and encrypted.
Re: Makemkv is useless
And if you enable LIbreDrive, bus encryption ceases to become a problem. Again, the only thing that REALLY matters is the unit keys and the disc ID. All the other information is wholly irrelevant.

That’s my issue if I don’t use a vpn I can’t get the keys it just says failed to download, iSomeguy1234 wrote: ↑Thu Feb 15, 2024 8:29 amI agree. The software is now where you A) have to be using a VPN in the United States to even download the new keys when the dump files are decrypted and B) you have to wait up to three weeks for a new 4K UHD Blu-ray to be able to be ripped. However, I can only imagine that what Mike does can't be easy. Or, I'm starting to worry about Mike and the servers that he uses for things. Anyone else starting to actually get worried that UHD discs that are post-January 30th or so release will no longer rip? I mean this is a possible reality.Radiocomms237 wrote: ↑Sat Feb 03, 2024 12:41 amSounds like he is talking about sending dumps for new UltraHD discs and having to wait for the keys to be added.
I agree the system is flawed, but it's the only option we have for ripping UHDs at the moment, so it is what it is.
Try downloading them from another database website and extracting them but Makemkv won’t read them. I used to use anydvd hd until they closed down and I had no issues downloading the keys from anydvd hd but now they are gone and some fake Chinese websites took over their domain.
I want to love Makemkv but every time it needs to download the database I am cooked unless I pay for a vpn

There are options. Have you tried?Peterduke wrote: ↑Fri Jan 31, 2025 8:46 pmThat’s my issue if I don’t use a vpn I can’t get the keys it just says failed to download, iSomeguy1234 wrote: ↑Thu Feb 15, 2024 8:29 amI agree. I tried troubleshooting, disabling firewall, AV, adding exceptions, reinstalling Makemkv I think I’m running out of optionsd00zah wrote: ↑Fri Jan 31, 2025 8:49 pmThere are options.
