lawrence of arabia 4k disc2?

Post by leighdog »

hello ive been tracking this problem for a couple of weeks now , some people have had this problem but has anyone found a fix for it yet ? the 4k disc 2 problem when people go to rip it, that the disc doesn't get found by makemkv or by the computer , ive tried 2 oz versions of the film & 2 uk versions of the film with all discs not be able to be found , any help from anyone out there would be great . i must also mention that i have cleaned the discs & tried the discs in multiple 4k players with them all working & playing fine . thanks

If you mean that your UHD drive doesn't even recognize that your disk has been inserted, so that it doesn't even appear in (say) Windows File Explorer, then there's not much you can do apart from clean the disk, try using a different UHD drive, or replace the disk and hope the new one is better.

However, if MakeMKV says that it cannot decrypt the disk, then it has likely also generated a TGZ dump file which you should email to svq@makemkv.com.

hello , thanks for ur reply , as stated in my previous msg , that ive tried 2 oz versions of the disc & 2 uk versions of the disk & all four times the ripper drive does not find a cd in the drive , therefor windows does not find anything , therefor makemkv does not create a dump file becoz it doesn't get to this stage, as i also said that ive cleaned the discs and have test played the discs in my different 4k bluray players and they all worked and played fine in my players , other people have also listed this problem on here in the last couple of months without decent replies or answers to there problems also . im also not prepared to buy another ripper drive as ive already invested enough money into this film already . somebody who has more than one ripper drive would need to do the troubleshooting at there end . thanks

Thanks for clarifying, but there aren't many real options here. There is clearly something "odd" with this disk that is confusing typical PC-compatible UHD drives. So unless the company who authored the disk is willing to offer you a more compatible replacement disk, your only real option would be to find a PC-compatible UHD drive that can recognize the disk you already have. Pioneer drives are widely regarded as the best at reading "problem" disks, if you know someone who has such a device, and who would be willing to lend it to you. But having said that, I also have a Pioneer BDR-UD04 that cannot "see" one of my disks either. YMMV.

Ouch, but FWIW the (only) disk my BDR-UD04 cannot "see" also works fine in every other UHD drive I have tried it in. So maybe this particular problem is limited to BDR-UD04 drives?

It was "The Doors", starring Val Kilmer. There could easily be a bug in the BDR-UD04 firmware which only affects a tiny percentage of disks, although if that's true then there's going to be no hope of getting it fixed.
