Yes, that's the one. Thanks :).

Any setting to do in MakeMKV to prevent this truncation in the future ?
Unfortunately not :(. I think MakeMKV does this when it realizes that it already knows the disk's Media Key, and so doesn't need to calculate it again. Which is fine for MakeMKV precisely because it makes the TGZ dump files so much smaller. It's just that it makes them much less useful for KEYDB too.

MKB_RO.inf link:
Can you also upload the AACS/MKB_RO.inf file fron the actual physical UHD disk please? The copy of this file inside your TGZ dump has been truncated to only 56 bytes, and so is unusable to anyone except MakeMKV itself.

MKB_RO.inf link (Do not just extract the MKB_RO.inf file from the disc dump file - copy it from the disc): not truncated
Disc dump link:

EDIT:

It got added, but doesn't work. Turns out the MKB_RO.inf from the dump file is truncated after all (3.63 MB in dump file, 5 MB on disc). I incorrectly assumed that anything over ~56 byte is not truncated. Sorry about that. The MKB_RO.inf from the disc:

EDIT 2:
Now working. Links removed.

Hey Scavenger, the ~3.6MB MKB_RO.inf file in your disc dump is usable. MakeMKV can remove the long sequence of trailing null bytes from the end of MKB_RO.inf files without issue. It really is just the 56 byte very truncated form which is problematic.

The reason that the initially added record didn't work for you was that it only contained the volume ID. The volume ID alone cannot be used to decrypt a disc. I'd prefer it if people would avoid adding entries to the keydb which contain only the volume ID as it leads to this type of confusion.

UHD discs can be decrypted if just the unit key is available. MakeMKV requires the volume unique key (VUK - the " | V | " part of a keydb record) in order to decrypt discs. There is no technical reason for this limitation but it explains why a disc might be playable via VLC but not decryptable in MakeMKV.

Your disc has a full record now, so it should work with MakeMKV once you grab the latest keydb. Make sure you have a line like this in your keydb.cfg file:

Code: Select all

0x06102E35B32EB3C34FDA2EC8161421614DAD2095 = PEE WEES BIG ADVENTURE | D | 0000-00-00 | M | 0x9B<Redacted for the forum> | I | 0xC3<Redacted for the forum> | V | 0x92<Redacted for the forum> | U | 1-0xE5<Redacted for the forum> ; MKBv82/BEE (UHD)

Your disc has been added to the public keydb. Please ensure you follow the latest submission template for any future submissions to avoid processing delays.
Public KeyDB Disc Submissions
  • LG/Buffalo/Asus drives only (Pioneer drives are not supported)
  • Please use file hosts, not forum attachments
  • If your disc dump is under 3MB, you need to manually include the MKB_RO.inf file from the AACS folder
