Valerian 4K: SCSI eror Plays on 4K Player

Post by shadow-archetype »

I tried everything but Valerian 4K does not like MakeMKV, but it plays fine on the 4k player hooked up to my TV (I've watched it at least twice from start to finish and skipped through it recently).

Visually, there don't appear to be any flaws on the disk.

This is the first line when the disk stopped processing:

Error 'Scsi error - ILLEGAL REQUEST:INVALID FIELD IN CDB' occurred while reading '/BDMV/STREAM/00278.m2ts' at offset '33258467328'

I realize the docs indicate the disk may be flawed, and I'd take that at face value if it also refused to play on the 4k player.

I tried a micro-fibre cloth, I tried pledge, I tried distilled water and a little bit of soap.

I tried downgrading the firmware to 1.0 and running both firmwares on Windows and Linux.

Every other disc in my collection (with the exception of a really old DVD of Spaceballs) eventually ripped, some after multiple tries.

Is there something else I can try, or should I just give up?

This is the full error output:

What does MakeMKV's "Info" window say about your drive? Specifically, does it say that LibreDrive is enabled? LibreDrive is required for UHD disks.

Yes, it's enabled.

MakeMKV happily processed all other 4K discs in my collection.

Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets is a triple layer disc… those are the hardest for any optical drive to rip.

Do you have a different drive you can try? In my experience, some drives just don't like some discs.
