Ripping Vs downloading

Hey all. I'm fairly new to ripping my blurays and dvds. Only done a few so far until my drive failed.
Recently got a new one, but it brought up a conversation from my partner. Why spend the time to rip from a disc. And then encode the parts you want. Which takes me perhaps a good half day per disc. (In my free time from work) Vs just download a copy from torrents and the like. Which with internet speed as it is, takes less than half hour.

Personally, I like the idea that these files are mine. I know exactly what quality they are at and what the contents are.

I've downloaded things in the past, but I have always tried to get a physical copy as well.

I thought I would ask people here. What makes you go through the hassle of ripping Vs just downloading it.

Are there any legal download sites? The existence of AACS and bus encryption would seem to suggest "not" ;).

I buy disks legally. Ripping them is merely how I choose to play them in the privacy of my own home.

If you purchased and received a license for MakeMKV but are having trouble, it is often the case that when one tries to copy & paste the key into MakeMKV either the computer unhelpfully adds a space at the end of the key or the first or last character is accidentally not copied.

If you purchased a key but did not receive it, first check your junk mail. If the email still isn't found, open a support ticket with the payment provider, PayPro Global.
