So it seems Makemkv cannot find any optical drives on my laptop now. It was working then the code no longer was correct. I uninstalled it and reinstalled the program and inserted the new key. It still does not fInd any usable optical drives. What can be wrong and how can I fix it? Any help or information would be greatly appreciated.

Searching for "usable optical" will come up with quite a number of hits - usually the issue is permissions.

I had this problem before then I took my system in ti get checked. The store upgraded my memeory, hard drive and put me to Windows 10 from 7. It was working for a while and now no longer. What permissions are you talking about?

In the October 2019 Win10 update, Microsoft introduced what is referred to as "ransomware protection". It includes limitations on programs that ask for low-level access to drives... which includes optical disks. You have to tell Win10 to allow MakeMKV to access the optical disk.

Woodstock,
Thanks for the link. I had already looked at that. Was not helpful. I see nothing which tells me HOW TO GRANT MakeMKV access.
I do not get a prompt from the OS - to allow access.
I also find it
FRUSTRATING
that no-one from MakeMKV is responding to my request for REGISTRATION that I had paid for years ago. This is not HOW you keep customers.

ALL ---
I have fixed this:
- MakeMKV_FIXED.png (52.8 KiB) Viewed 12934 times
Here is how I did it (Windows 10 Pro / Build 2004 - 64-bit):
1. Find the ICON in the START MENU (PROGRAMS LIST).
2. Right-Mouse button click. Choose MORE >> OPEN FILE LOCATION.
3. When EXPLORER opens to the SHORTCUT (see image):
- MakeMKV_Shortcut.png (8.74 KiB) Viewed 12934 times
4. Right-Mouse button click and choose PROPERTIES:
- MakeMKV_Shortcut2.png (21.03 KiB) Viewed 12934 times
5. Click CHANGE SETTINGS FOR ALL USERS button.
6. Place a CHECK MARK in RUN THIS PROGRAM AS AN ADMINISTRATOR.
7. Click APPLY >> OK.
8. Click APPLY >> OK again to exit PROPERTIES (and save settings).
9. The next time you launch from the shortcut - you will be prompted/warned about the ADMIN Access.
10. Choose OK - and the application sees your Drive.

D00zah,
Thank You for those.... I found a way - see my posting above. That worked for me....but, your information is good as well.
Now - if the MakeMKV folks would respond about my previous license.

and note the posting in the above thread from Mike that the MakeMKV installation offer the install of an small tool, which bypasses the admin option for MakeMKV.
