Re: LibreDrive outside MakeMKV
I’d like to play an AACS v81 Blu-ray disc on my Linux machine. By "play," I mean the following process: https://web.archive.org/web/20250923123754/https://vlc-bluray.whoknowsmy.name/ . Outside what has been already discussed, since you'rr able to successfully rip the disc, you can also si...

Re: Feature Request: Backup directly to ISO
I'm very aware of how to burn this. Just in likely 99.9% of cases, the backup feature will be used to go to an ISO. Either for someone wanting BDISO or to burn to physical disc. It would be nice if it happened in one step in MakeMKV. Or at least have the option.

Re: SDF update November 2025
It bears mentioning that BDXL and UHD are different beasts. Physically, three-layer BDXL and UHD are almost identical, both using 33.3GB per layer and slightly shorter pits and lands than normal. But the BDA wanted to protect itself and licensed them separately. Any drive that is physically capable ...

Re: SDF update November 2025
I don't get it, though I have avoided casing up some cheap drives from the red flags of the listings (Chinese, too cheap, too many available, and sharing identical photo sets). AliExpress and eBay both are very strict, and side with the buyer pretty much every time, forcing either no physical retur...

Feature Request: Backup directly to ISO
It would be a handy feature if MakeMKV could, when it creates a backup, create it right to an ISO.

Re: Somehow able to reach 7.6x read rate on BD-100 with Asus BW-16D1HT
That's great. I've seen my LG WH16NS60 reach 11.4x or so on UHD 100GB discs. Your Asus, under the hood, is an LG WH16NS40 I think, so you may see faster rips yet. I'm not sure if MakeMKV by default limits the read rate on that drive or not. But you might see even faster rips if you unchain the read ...

Re: SDF update November 2025
the proliferation of Chinese sellers on eBay (I smell fakes but could be wrong) What is happening on eBay and Ali Express is they have smelled chum in the water. They get their hands on something like a BDR-PR1JAME, an essentially useless drive, and they sell them with the note "We have variou...

Re: UHD Playback solutions - what is yours?
So nobody plays off optical any more? The movies I care enough about to have on UHD.... I dunno. I can't bring myself to re-encode those. Goldfinger, Wrath of Khan, The Abyss... the idea of re-encoding them for myself hurts. For example, I have never been able to re-encode the Abyss at any bitrate f...

UHD Playback solutions - what is yours?
Somewhat off topic, but I'm curious what people use, if anything, for UHD playback solutions for ripped/duplicated (decrypted) discs? I'm fairly late to the game for UHD. The prevailing storage method seems to be hard-drive/NAS of either full-size or re-encoded ripped .mkv files. I have 8TiB for my ...

Re: SDF update November 2025
That is a surprise. Pre-2022 drives are used as-is for UHD ripping, or so it's claimed elsewhere. I always thought the only reason newer drives couldn't be used for UHD was the lack of LibreDrive. Who told you this? Even if it is a pre-2023 Pioneer with LibreDrive enabled, it does not mean it will ...

Re: Speed control still possible?
Useful to know, I suspected that was the case, but I'm still curious about the speed control setting and whether or not it's deprecated and/or if I'm doing something wrong that the stub isn't being created in my config.

Speed control still possible?
It seems since 1.18.2 that the speed control setting is no longer written for new drives to settings.conf. Is this feature now deprecated? EDIT: My settings.conf had an existing stub speed entry for my LG WH16NS60 from earlier MakeMKV versions. I can successfully use this to set the speed of my LG. ...

your x13 is not a UHD drive it would need to be crossflashed and that is not available to the the public and likely wont be because of the risks That is a surprise. Re: Advice for new optical drive purchase
Thanks kyimlew2q . I can't find any info on whether it reads and burns 120Gb blurays, and is there an internal 5.25" drive bay version? Also, you said there is BU40N inside, so it's just an LG drive that's repackaged? Yes, it's just an LG BU40N internal slimline that is mounted inside a Verbat...

Re: SDF update November 2025
Automatic SDF download: MakeMKV is actually downloading data of the size of sdf.bin (1.9MiB), but then claims it cannot download it. The problem may not be downloading the data, but in whatever verification that MakeMKV does. That said, once manually downloaded, it is incorporated into my _private_d...
