It is possible that WB packaging is, um, "gassy" and can contaminate disks more often, but the ones I've experienced are generally not WB. The one I have in front of me is a Sentai Filmworks, and it ripped just fine 5 years ago.

What do you recommend cleaning them with?

Only getting longer CAN mean the drive is not able to read the disk, as opposed to not being able to DECODE its encryption. I'm in the midst of re-ripping all my DVDs and BDs, and have several disks that are currently giving me hell. Some, I just need to clean; others... I'll deal with after I rip ...
