Re: SDF update November 2025

With my USB drives, I disconnect them, restart MKV, then try again, and after a couple tries, it'll work. If I understand correctly, if you start MakeMKV first, then insert the disc, assuming it has the right key, or can download it (downloading HKs can take seemingly forever), that shouldn't happen.

Re: makemkv feature request slow hdd

I'm not advocating anything about the slow disk message but if the optical drive keeps vying against the destination volume then you're putting needless wear on your optical drive. Speeding up and slowing down a lot only seems to happen with excessively DRMed, poorly balanced, or scratched up, disc...

Re: makemkv feature request slow hdd

The problem with a large buffer is that then you have to wait a long time after the reading is done, to flush it out. A very large buffer could also get in the way of other programs working correctly, if we're talking going into the gigabytes. How do you then balance it against available RAM, when r...

Re: Error about DvdFab/MacTheRipper

With China Beach being recently pushed on streaming, and thus a boost in buyer visibility, bootlegs wouldn't surprise me one bit. Amazon isn't as bad as eBay, but if their supply chain gets tainted, you can't choose another seller on Amazon's platform and be sure to get something different (though y...

Re: MKV Framerate

It's really 23.976. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Three-two_pull_down On CRTs, you'd only notice it happening with lots of action, and sometimes even then only if really looking for it. The interlacing/deinterlacing and slow decay of the phosphor made it look acceptable, most of the time. Movies tha...

Re: SDF update November 2025

I don't get it, though I have avoided casing up some cheap drives from the red flags of the listings (Chinese, too cheap, too many available, and sharing identical photo sets). AliExpress and eBay both are very strict, and side with the buyer pretty much every time, forcing either no physical return...

Re: Advice for new optical drive purchase

I've just been buying flashable used and NIB/NOS Pioneers, from eBay, to hopefully not have to revisit the subject any time soon. As more 4K discs come in, I'll flash and use the NIB ones a little. I'm kind of surprised how long very flashable drive listings hang around, TBH. Watch them, wait for of...

Is there any way to automatically keep file names?

1. So, I open .../John Wick (2014)/BDMV/index.bdmv 2. The name field becomes, "John Wick" 3. I add in, " (2014)" 4. I click the button to make MKVs. Is there a way to have it use the full name that the backups were created with? It seems to be getting something of what I named th...

Re: Error about DvdFab/MacTheRipper

I know the feeling. I've tried my best to avoid them, knowing they exist, but I've ordered a couple that Wally World normally stocks (but not deeply enough that I could pick them up when I went there), that were physically so close to the real things, it was unreal (no MakeMKV warnings, but unencryp...

I've only seen it as a false positive, but it can be a strong hint at having gotten bootlegs.

Re: Help getting blu-ray menus working

On my Ubuntu (Noble) That's the ticket. I also normally run an Arch-based distro, like OP (Garuda, in my case), and have been batting zero, even getting and building libbluray-bdj myself. I just tried an Ubuntu 24.04 live USB stick, installed VLC and libbluray-bdj, opened the disc folder (MakeMKV d...

Re: HOW TO INSTALL MAKEMKV ON UBUNTU FOR PEOPLE NEW TO LINUX

Tar xvf extracts them, from the terminal. The sudo apt-get install (...) line only needs to be run once, before running configure or make, and can be run anywhere. It's to install the packages MakeMKV (and the building of MakeMKV) depends on. Apt-get is the main Debian (and Ubuntu) software install...
