Duplicate rips?

Post by gibanica »

So I was testing out this software today and just grabbed any DVD I had lying around. When I put the DVD into the tray and loaded MakeMKV I had 3 copies of the movie (all of similar size) then all the extras, etc.

As you can see there are various smaller files which are the special features, etc. Then there are 3 larger ones, all of which seem to be the movie. All of which seem to be pretty much the same audio/video quality.

Are these all likely to be the movie, or are they thrown in there and have things changed? I am lost.

I've more than likely just done something extremely noobish. First rip I've done.

The images you gave us tell us nothing, next time try expanding the title trees first!

1. Check the Audios first, that might give you a clue. If one has Japanese and another has European audios, then keep the European one (unless you're Japanese of course).

2. Next check the segment map, if you can decipher it that will tell you how many alternate scenes are in each cut, unfortunately at this point it WON'T tell you where they are, you'll have to figure that out yourself the hard way by watching them.

I just found a blu ray with two identical tracks, same length, same segment map and exactly the same audio too. The only difference was one didn't have any chapters.

What's on a disc is entirely dependant on what the distributers feel like putting on the disc. Try loading the disc in a DVD playing and looking through the menus, that might give you other clues. It could be as simple as one title is supposed to have commentary enabled and one of the chapters is a few milliseconds off the main track, or something stupid like that. Some discs have out of order titles put on the disc deliberately as a deterrent to pirating. It could be anything, have fun figuring it out!
