LG WH16NS60 Drive Failures?

I'm on my second one of these and both have done the same thing already. Shucked them out of their Buffalo Mediastation cases, installed in my PC, flashed the firmware and they worked great for a few weeks. Then while ripping a UHD, they failed mid rip and now won't recognize any discs at all. Blu Ray, DVD, UHD...nothing. Anyone else experienced this? Is there anything that can be done to salvage the drive?

sadly happens all the time with these thats why i stopped selling them in 2019 but now they are just about all you can get so...
make sure to fully power it down for 5 mins to see if it comes back a reboot will not do it
other than that you can clean the lasers too and no not with a cleaning disc they are a joke.
also make sure your pc power supply is a good one gold rated or better and good voltage regulation look up psu reviews from cybenetics or ltt labs ect...

Not even DVDs are readable? Then both lasers has broken at the same time?! For my interest, which manufactering date has the drive?

Must be something else that is broken. One of my BH16NS55 died the same way.

The thing is I’ve never even ripped a dvd with this drive. I have another blu ray reader that is over 15 years old that I use exclusively for all dvd and blu ray discs. This drive is solely for UHD rips. So with nothing being readable it has me hoping it’s not a laser issue and something else.

I’ll try turning off the PC for five minutes and see if that helps. I know the computer has a solid PSU, so I doubt that would be an issue.

Like Coopervid wrote above, it could to be anthother defect, not the laser itself. Perhaps the power supply for the laser.

No luck, still won’t read a disc. Sucks cause I bought three of these expecting to get 5-10 years out of them and I’m down to my last one just 3-4 months later.
And the PSU is a Corsair gold 850w

We'll see. I still have my Pioneer that I'm trying to minimize usage on, along with 3x Verbatim 43888 and an LG that I snagged from Best Buy. I really just prefer the ones I can mount inside my PC and not have to fumble around with USB connections.
