unable to play bluray disk with VLC

HI all, I am having a issue using makemkv to decode a bluray to be played with VLC. First makemkv was able to read the disk and I was able to capture the main movie and watch it on my computer so from that perspective makemkv is working correctly. But when I try to open the disk with VLC I get a series of java errors, and the move never starts or vlc simply crashes. Attached is the terminal output using openjkd-23. I have tried 8, 11, and 17 with similar issues. Hopefully this can be resolved.
For reference I am on Arch (EndeavourOS specifically) with makemkv v 1.17.8
