Which one should I use to play .mkv files which are created by Makemkv program? Is there mainly a difference in sound quality (DTS-HD Master Audio) ?

I use a VLC player too. But are there any differences with the audio codecs in these programs? I read somewhere that the LAV filter would play higher quality DTS Master audio tracks. Does any of the free programs support DTS Master audio lossless audio tracks? Or do they use the "Core" track which is not lossless?Woodstock wrote: Sun Nov 21, 2021 3:02 pm I play MKV files in VLC without any special filters. They usually aren't needed.
For a time, VLC did not do well with certain audio codecs, but that should be fixed by now.
So, really, these are filters to add to MPC to give it the capabilities of VLC, since they're based on the same projects.LAV Filters - ffmpeg based DirectShow Splitter and Decoders
