Dear all,
When i convert a DVD with subtitles (dutch) to an MKV lately the subtitles become very small on my Samsung ES 6100 Flatscreen TV. When I play the MKV file on my laptop computer the subtitles seem to be ok. Playing them on my TV shows subtitles to small to read? So you might say its my TV but: 1) if i try "Freemake Video Converter" the problem doesn't show? 2) Till about 6 months ago i didn't have problems with MKV? No subtitle setting from the tv can solve the problem. Why i don't use FreeMake Video Converter instead? Because a DVD from 4.5 GB is transferred tot max 2.9 GB and i fear difference in quality. Thanxs for helping me out.

MakeMKV does not resize the subs, not from DVD, not from BD.

Re: Subtitle very small after conversion from DVD to MKV
DVD subtitles are an image, rather than actual text. Unless Mike is experimenting with something in the background MakeMKV isn't even capable of altering the Subtitle Image from the what was on the original disc. Theoretically the subtitles are supposed to be applied to the image before it's resized to fit the size of the screen, meaning there can be no difference between the output of different devices. Obviously your TV is doing it wrong.
Does FreeMake convert to MKV? Does it reduce the resolution of the image? Is it still MPEG2? There is most likely some bug in the way the TV handles one of the components from the DVD rips that is causing the issue.

Looks like an issue with the Samsung ES6100. I have the same TV and I am experiencing exactly the same problem with small subtitles when playing a mkv-file that is created by MakeMKV. It only occurs when the source is DVD. A workaround on my TV is stop playing the movie and start playing again. After a couple of restarts the subtitles will have a normal size. Very strange.
