Problem finding external optical drive

Post by rhydian » Sun Aug 12, 2012 12:14 am

Hi there,

I'm using an external DVD drive connected to my Win 7 (64bit) laptop via USB, and MakeMKV is not able to see it. With logging enabled, I get the following message on launch, with the drive connected:

MakeMKV v1.7.6 win(x64-release) started
Debug logging enabled, log will be saved as C:\Users\Rhyd/MakeMKV_log.txt
DEBUG: Code 0 at r"hDQwfuF3!AOL:29395609

DEBUG: Code 0 at ]>'bERuj6E2owxDl:29394528
DEBUG: Code 0 at >z,4Y2B]|^OE7bYx};pb"QE2J#:29393884
The program can't find any usable optical drives.

The DVD drive works fine and shows up in both Windows Explorer and other DVD utilities e.g. DVDShrink.

Does anyone have any comments or suggestions? They would be gratefully appreciated.

Many thanks,

Rhydian

Hi!

If you haven't already done so, try loading the disc BEFORE starting MakeMKV...

Hi setarip_old,

Thank you for your reply, and good point. I just tried loading up a disc using windows media player and it plays successfully - but alas still no joy with MakeMKV.

If it helps, I notice when MakeMKV launches, in the 'Information' box, it says

Scanning device: SPTI:\Device\CdRom0

which I think is a reference to my laptops built-in CD drive which stopped working ages OK, due to a problem with the motherboard. I've since removed the drive and re-mounted it in a USB enclosure to retain the use of it, but unfortunately it seems MakeMKV isn't getting as far as looking at the USB peripherals before telling me it can't find any usable optical drives. There's seemingly no problem with the drive though as it works fine in every other program I use it with.

Is there a way of telling MakeMKV where to look when it launches? A bit like changing the boot order in a BIOS?
