Help needed Pioneer BD-RW BDR-209M

Post by H.lunulata » Thu Mar 12, 2026 4:31 pm

Hi together,
i am quite new to this whole thing and while i have been using MakeMKV to rip DVDs without any issues i recently purchased a Pioneer BDR-209M impulsively.
After connecting it to my laptop and purchasing the MakeMKV license it says under the LibreDrive Information "Status: Possible, not yet enabled"
After combing through the forum i came to the conclusion that it is a firmware thing and i need to update the firmware on it,
which in theory should be possible as the current firmware is pre 2022 as indicated by the "Firmware date: 2017-12-21"
going by that information i tried to find information about how to flash the firmware but everything i have found so far is about firmware for "Drive Platform MT1959"
Maybe i misunderstand something or i am missing something important but im a bit lost now and would be grateful for any help in this.
I am also 100% comfortable with using the command line and command line based tools to fix this but i just currently do not know where to start this process.

The Whole drive information is:

Drive Information
OS device name: E:
Manufacturer: PIONEER
Product: BD-RW BDR-209M
Revision: 1.50
Serial number:
Firmware date: 2017-12-21
Bus encryption flags: 1B

LibreDrive Information
Status: Possible, not yet enabled
Drive platform: Pioneer RS8601
Firmware version: GENE

If someone can help me with this it would be greatly appreciated
Thanks in advance for any help and advice

Hi everyone,

so i did a firmware upgrade/downgrade and now everything works perfectly, i can rip normal BluRays and UHD discs but there is a new problem, i have two BluRays that initially worked right after the new firmware was flashed and Libredrive was enabled, they where quite slow but readable nonetheless, then i shut the Computer and when i restarted it everything else still worked but these Two particular BluRays are no longer recognized by the Drive.
Does anyone know what the reason for this could be?
I am grateful for any help and tips on how to fix this.

Clean those discs. Even if they look clean.
Cheers :D
