Is the BDR-X12UBK flashable and does it support UHD in MakeMKV?

Post by Uelen » Sat Jan 31, 2026 3:48 pm

Hello, I currently have the opportunity to buy a BDR-X12UBK from a local guy. I was wondering if it was possible to use it to rip UHD blurays or if it is flashable.

I have seen another thread asking this question but there was no answer as the rest of the discussion continued in PMs. I cannot post the MKV drive info & libredrive info sections as I do not own the drive currently. However I do know that it currently is on firmware 1.02.

If it is, will be interested in buying the software to flash it.

If the firmware is pre Dec. 2022 it can be flashed for UHD. You need to find out. Makemkv info will tell.

Thank you Coopervid, I appreaciate the quick response.
I was able to obtain the info:

Code: Select all

Drive Information
Manufacturer: PIONEER
Product: BD-RW BDR-X12
Revision: 1.02
Firmware date: 2020-01-22
Bus encryption flags: 1B

LibreDrive Information
Status: Enabled
Drive platform: RS9000
Firmware name: PIONEER BDR-X12T
Firmware type: Original (unpatched)
Firmware version: 1.02/lD56
DVD all regions: Yes
BD raw data read: Yes
BD raw metadata read: Yes
Unrestricted read speed: Yes
"2020-01-22" Those specs should be perfect, right?
I don't want to be annoying but as I'll be spending a non-negligable amount on money on this, I just want to be 100% sure.
