How to MERGE 2 MKV Files

Post by EddieK » Wed Jan 29, 2025 12:11 am

I ripped a movie called The Bridger On The River Kwai. The disc appears to have part 1 and part 2 on the same side of the disc. While both parts ripped fine and plays back just fine, how can I merge both MKV files together to as one movie?

I have the MKVtoolnix but I am completely overwhelmed to figure out how to use it.

Any suggestion or 'how to' that is specific to my question?

Thank you.

Thank you for the link. That tutorial is pretty vague because I have so much details list on my mxtoolnix that I do not know if I should keep the default settings? Assign chapters? Set language, etc., etc., etc. See screenshot:

Overwhelmed.

Thank you.

You asked about merging 2 files, which the tutorial addresses. If the other things you are asking about are already part of the 2 pieces, they will be included. Don't be afraid to experiment (as long as the original 2 pieces remain unmodified, to try again).

Note: The 2 pieces should include the same video/audio codec info (IF the tutorial doesn't mention it).

Thank you for encouraging to just try it. It merged perfectly! Again, thank you.

Glad it worked. Little risk w/ this sort of experimentation.

Now discover what all the other stuff does... if you dare!? :D

Ok. What about black bars all around the video. It's supposed to be widescreen but it acts as though it did not upscale.

I will start a new post if you like.

Thank you.

They are padding... part of the video track. You can re-encode, w/ cropping, using Handbrake, but is it REALLY necessary? The video will still have the same aspect ratio (appear the same). Better dealt w/ using the player's 'Zoom' adjustment, IMO.

I'm not using a play. I'm using Plex private local sever and Plex streaming app to view them on my TV. I used the zoom option on my TV but it kind of blurs the image.

I will deal with the cropping later and post it in a new post.

Thank you.
