Disc access speed in 1.6.6

Post by mike admin » Sat Apr 02, 2011 8:40 am

This is continuation of http://www.makemkv.com/forum2/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=2600

The disc IO engine is updated once again in MakeMKV 1.6.6 . If you experienced disc speed problems in 1.6.4-1.6.5 and still have them in 1.6.6, please post here. If your problems are gone with 1.6.6 then post a note too.

Good results here, also (although in all honesty I never had a speed issue with the previous versions either). I'm using a firmware- modified Liteon IHES-208.

Another "good" result for me (maybe to do with continued mod of the I/ O process)...in version 1.65 my BD RIPS would start to fail at the 60-70% process claiming a fault with the BD STRUCTURE. However, in 1.66 the BD RIP IS FAST AND FLAWLESS. (I tested with 4 of the same BDs.)

Thank you....

With 1.6.6 I am unable to open the only BluRay I have tried. I turned on debugging and the last entry in the log is "Using Direct Access Disk Mode". I get a program error, exiting when I try and open the bluray.

1.6.3 is able to open the BluRay and is presently backing it up to an MKV.

I am running Windows XP as a guest within VMWare ESXi 4.1 with the drive in passthrough mode.

Disk access in 1.6.6 was fixed working now once again 3-6 times faster than in the previous two updates. Returned to 3.5X -7X speed, taking only 12 minutes vs. 75 minutes for a 5GB DVD. Thanks!

Windows XP, Athlon 2.6GHz CPU, 4GB RAM, eSATA external WD10EACS drive.

I'm currently ripping 24 Season 8 on blu-ray... disc 3 would not get any faster than 3MB/s until the last ten minutes or so of the rip when I got to 10MB/s. Except for the initial slow copy of small files, disc 4 has so far been at 23-26MB/s.

Both discs are new, having been watched once on my Sony S760. No scratches or finger prints or anything.

Ripping on a Pioneer BDR-205.
