Hello,
I was hoping someone could assist me in flashing my new Buffalo drive that just arrived this week. As you can see from the status screen, BU14 came installed on this drive when I purchased it.
I am using the Asus modified firmware tool that was linked on this site and I am selecting "DE_Buffalo_BRUHD-PU3_BU10.bin"
And each time I receive this error. Is this happening due to encryption of the firmware? Do i need to select a different file instead? I really dont want to brick the drive.
Assistance with Buffalo drive?
Re: Assistance with Buffalo drive?
I believe I've fixed my own problem after continuing to troubleshoot and read other threads and found the appropriate cross referenced firmware file from the guide, which lead me to another user:
viewtopic.php?f=16&t=28254&p=122744#p122744
Looks like things are better now!
I did make a backup of the BU14 firmware in case anyone is interested in a copy, just let me know.

Use SDFtool Flasher. I think BU14 firmware might also be encrypted so if SDFtool flasher doesn't automatically apply the encrypted firmware flag, you can toggle it manually by clicking on the red "X".paramour wrote: ↑Sun Aug 07, 2022 12:38 amHello,

Also, I don't think you can flash to BU10 directly. You should flash to BU40N BU13-MK first, then flash to BU10.
Cheers

Re: Assistance with Buffalo drive?
So should i continue to post in this thread for troubleshooting UHD decryption or start a new one?
The flashing as you can see from my previous post went ok, I went straight from BU14 to BU10 and the result posted in the screenshot in my previous reply seems to indicate success to me. DVDfab is my preferred app of choice for this stuff and it still doesn't like what it's seeing on the drive with a UHD disc trying to read it. I gave MakeMKV a try also and it seemed to get a little further but ultimately failed too, with the following:
Error 'Scsi error - NOT READY:LOGICAL UNIT IS IN PROCESS OF BECOMING READY' occurred while reading 'BD-RE BUFFALO Optical Drive 1.03 MO6LCQD5718' at offset '33365557248'
Error 'Scsi error - NOT READY:LOGICAL UNIT IS IN PROCESS OF BECOMING READY' occurred while reading '/AACS/DUPLICATE/Content001.cer' at offset '0'

Backup failed
Update 1: Ok so I made sure to connect both usb cables and MakeMKV seems to be doing ok so far decrypting my test disc. Will have final results in about an hour or so. Will try with DVDfab again after this is completed...not knocking the Makemkv app at all, but I purchased a lifetime license for dvdfab a few months ago.
Update 2: MakeMKV worked flawlessly, after which I tried DVDfab again and continue to receive the firmware error below. I know the easy solution is to simply just use Makemkv from here on out but I'm rather glum because I had already purchased a lifetime license for fab which seems useless now. Is it looking for a different firmware version? I haven't changed anything since my previous post successfully flashing to 1.03/BU10 in the above screenshot.
Update 3: So I used the modified Asus utility from the site links to flash the drive again using DE_Buffalo_BRUHD-PU3_BU10 and even tried DE_LG_BU40N_1.00. Both were successful, Makemkv works with all of them so far, yet DVDfab doesn't like any of these firmware versions and keeps giving me the same error. I even double-checked on their web page here and it claims it will work with these versions.

DVDFab sucks balls but it should work with both BU10 and 1.00. You could use MakeMKV for UHD and DVDFab for everything else with another drive.paramour wrote: ↑Sun Aug 07, 2022 6:22 pmSo should i continue to post in this thread for troubleshooting UHD decryption or start a new one?

Re: Assistance with Buffalo drive?
I really appreciate all the help and support from this site, I just didn't even know about it until maybe a month ago.
Still no luck with DVDfab, I'm of the opinion that what they do is take the images of the firmware files found here, modify them just slightly (maybe just a name change) and then their products look for that specific file that they've altered and if it isn't there, boom! you gotta purchase their drive tool.
In any case I wanted to post part of the DVDfab log where it looked for the firmware on the drive, maybe it'll be helpful to someone. I wonder if anyone here has a firmware file that DOES work with DVDfab that you could share so that others could see what it's looking for exactly.
