I have hp oem version BU40N.
The firmware version of this device that I have was BW42, but when I looked at the forum, there was no case, so I was worried. BW41 is said to be, so it's just in "(Modified) ASUS ODD FW Changer (24.08.2019) + UHD Friendly Firmwares + Latest MK Pack (20.07.2020)"
Flashing the "DE_LG_BU40N_1.00.bin" firmware to "ASUS_ODD_FW_Changer_(Modified).exe".
During flashing, it didn't go over 60% for a long time, so when I forcefully terminated and reconnected, the model name and version name were changed, and libredrive, which was not supported in BW42, was also marked as support.
Now, I flashed it with version 1.04mk and it was displayed as below, and it was confirmed that UHD (test movie: weathering with You korean ver) video can be read well.

Re: BU40N BW42 flashable DE firmware
Hello,
I just flashed a BU40N using this tool:
https://www.makemkv.com/forum/download/file.php?id=3035
with the firmware 1.04 from:
mk-firmware-pack-20200720 with file path MK\HL-DT-ST\BU40N-N-Main
You might also need the ENC box ticked during the flash, I did the flash with it checked and everything works for me but not an expert on this drive and as purchased to purely see why so many people rave about this drive.
My drive is now fully unlocked and working great.
