Buying ASUS BW-16D1H-U getting wrong firmware

Post by danilkp1234 » Sat Apr 07, 2018 7:50 pm

So I'm thinking of buying an ASUS BW-16D1H-U USB 3.0 drive to rip 4k hdr movies but as it says here https://www.makemkv.com/forum2/viewtopi ... 12&t=16832 I should not update the firmware version but what if I get the drive with an upgraded firmware (if its possible) what should i do it is kinda a waste to buy and drive and find out that it does not work and does anyone know if this is the right drive https://www.bilka.dk/elektronik/harddis ... 0000000000 on pictures it looks like it but it is not the exact same name there it says ASUS BW-16D1H-U PRO but the drive that is uhd friendly is ASUS BW-16D1H-U

The USB Asus drives do NOT use a BDXL-compatible drive, so they do not work on UHD movies.

Even though the first 6 or 8 characters of the model number are shared with the BDXL-capable SATA drives, they aren't the same. I know... I bought one and found out.

but then what drive should i buy thinking about the ASUS BW-16D1HT-PRO i have looked up and it looks like firmware 3.02 should work with ripping 4k movies so if I download the version 3.02 http://www.firmwarehq.com/Asus/BW-16D1HT/files.html
and get the drive and the firmware is something like 1.02 or 3.03 or a version that doesn't work then I could just use that file to get it on the right firmware and if that possible how do i do it

Buy one of the known working UHD Friendly internal drives and then an enclosure. Many people have had to that and have been successful.
