Blu Ray DTS audio with MKV files via HDMI

#1 Post by ortep1 » Sat Jan 09, 2010 7:39 pm

Hello,
I rip Blu Rays with MakeMKV, resulting in MKV files on an external HDD. WDTV cannot play the DTS audio and I'm considering the Box Office now. Question: Will Box Office play these MKV files with DTS (via HDMI), and without any extra steps?

WDTV Live $120 (I got two of em) will play .mkv with DTS though. It'll also downmix DTS so if you don't have a receiver / amp then you can have it still play on your TV via HDMI or if you have a really old TV just use the analog outputs for stereo for DTS. All my .mkv blurays I keep the DTS soundtrack.
