MakeMKV won't open any Blu-Rays

#1 Post by TheMikeOfSteel » Wed Apr 02, 2014 11:31 pm

I just installed MakeMKV 1.8.9 on a new Retina MacBook Pro 13” running Mavericks 10.9.2. I’m not able open any Blu-Rays.

When I launch the MakeMKV, the program gives me this error:
MakeMKV v1.8.9 darwin(x86-release) started
Error 'Scsi error - STATUS_05' occurred while issuing SCSI command 46020..00140 to device 'DASPI:IODASPIService:760b45dd0ec34ddb:'
Optical drive "PIONEER BD-RW BDR-XD04 1.00" opened in DASPI v1.4 mode.
Error 'Scsi error - STATUS_05' occurred while issuing SCSI command 46020..00140 to device 'DASPI:IODASPIService:760b45dd0ec34ddb:'
Failed to open disc
If I choose “Open Files” I get this error:
MakeMKV v1.8.9 darwin(x86-release) started
Error 'Scsi error - STATUS_05' occurred while issuing SCSI command 46020..00140 to device 'DASPI:IODASPIService:3b4a84999b3e46f3:'
Optical drive "PIONEER BD-RW BDR-XD04 1.00" opened in DASPI v1.4 mode.
Error 'Scsi error - STATUS_05' occurred while issuing SCSI command 460200010..00100 to device 'DASPI:IODASPIService:3b4a84999b3e46f3:'
Opening files on harddrive at /Volumes/TAKEN
The volume key is unknown for this disc - video can't be decrypted
Failed to open disc
My external Blu-Ray drive appears to be working correctly. It works perfectly on an iMac running Mountain Lion. On the MacBook Pro, the drive shows up in the Finder and everything seems great.

It’s a Pioneer BDR-XD04 if that matters.

Does anyone know how I can fix this issue? Any help is greatly appreciated.

Hmmm, this is just a hunch, but did you install the DASPI package included the DMG?

I ran into this problem too. The drive worked fine with Mavericks on a 2009 MacBook Pro, but not a newer 2013 MacBook Air. Might be because the newer machine is USB 3.0... Anyway, I was able to fix it by updating the firmware on the drive to version 1.30, which is available on Pioneer's Japanese site:

The US site had a newer version of firmware than I had on the drive, but not the latest 1.30. You'll need access to a Windows machine to do the update though, there isn't a Mac installer that I could find. So far I don't think it's broken anything either, though YMMV.

For your disk drive, is it through USB? Try to check the thread below.

Always back it up. Image
