#1 Post by dt2510 » Tue Nov 20, 2012 10:39 am

I have some problems ripping the german "Merida" (Pixar's "Brave") Blu-ray. Analyzing the m2ts files with MediaInfo, i found the following audio track:

Code: Select all

Audio #5
ID : 4356 (0x1104)

Format : AC-3
Format/Info : Audio Coding 3

Bitrate : 512 Kbps
Kan?le : 6 Kan?le
Kanal-Positionen : Front: L C R, Side: L R, LFE
Samplingrate : 48,0 KHz
BitDepth/String : 16 bits
Stream-Gr??e : 2,75 MiB (1%)
Using MakeMKV 1.7.9 x64 the track is recognized as "DDplus 3/1 German". After ripping the above audio track appears in MediaInfo like this:

Code: Select all

Format : E-AC-3
Format/Info : Audio Coding 3
Codec-ID : A_EAC3
Dauer : 1h 34min
Bitraten-Modus : konstant
Bitrate : 384 Kbps
Kan?le : 4 Kan?le
Samplingrate : 48,0 KHz
Stream-Gr??e : 259 MiB (1%)
Sprache : Deutsch
All other tests using tsmuxer or mkvmerge also had no success in correctly ripping the E-AC3 audio. Any ideas ?

Dolby Digital Plus sometimes has an embedded "core" (typically, 5.1 channels, but in your case, 4.0). Some tools and decoders can only parse/decode that core, and not the additional channels.

Interesting. Please make and send the test dump for this title per instructions at http://www.makemkv.com/onlinehelp/testdump.html

I had obviously read your post too fast. Not sure how the "core" went from 5.1 to 4.0 channels…
