Having diffiiculty ripping a BluRay

Seeing the following in the log when trying to rip a BluRay. It seems like it is having difficulty, but not getting media errors. Eventually, MakeMKV reports failure. The volume is unmounted, but the external drive has a blinking activity LED... like it was stuck trying to process something. At this point, I also cannot mount additional volumes until I actually reboot the system without the BR drive attached. I'd suspect a driver-level issue here, but can't really be sure how MakeMKV is interacting with the direct access library provided.

For reference, this is on an MBPr running 10.8.2.
