Which file

#1 Post by newtie » Fri Sep 21, 2012 9:33 pm

Hi-
I recently discovered MakeMKV and like it. However, sometimes I'll get a file that has multiple large sizes and don't know which one to save as the pic below shows. In addition, sometimes I'll get multiple single 1.5 gb files that aren't combined. Before I buy this, I'd like to see if I could get this resolved.

Thanks,
Mark

Which file

Based upon your picture, it looks like the particular movie you've inserted may have a theatrical and extended version. This is common and usually the extended version is larger in size and the play time is slightly longer.

Or... The DVD may have 2 separate movies on it.

As for the small files, they are likely trailers or bonus features on the DVD. I always set MakeMKV to only show items 15 minutes or longer in the settings.

It never hurts to rip both files, then test each to see if they're complete.

Also, sometimes they have a 'directors commentary' version that shows up as a separate title. They're usually the same number of chapters, and have the same running time, but now and then you may find one that has the 'commentary' version without the intro or something.

If in doubt, insert the disc into a normal player and take note of which title it plays.
