Will Make MKV ever get ouf of beta?

#1 Post by superspartan » Sat Jun 27, 2026 8:25 am

It's been in BETA status for years. Doesn't give a good impression about its quality. When will it ever get out of beta?

I think the fact people have been using it for years gives a good impression of its quality.

Woodstock wrote:As for "when will it be out of beta", most of us hope "never". There is a lot of software out there that never leaves beta - Windows 10 is an example. Everyone running it is a beta tester. "Release" versions are "feature fixed", and only bugs will be repaired. Beta software can mutate in ways that software that has "release" versions usually don't.

Should MakeMKV ever leave beta, those rules about BD "trial run" periods will be more rigidly enforced.
(This was posted in 2017, hence the Windows 10 reference, but I feel Woodstock's point still stands.)

Oh I have no doubt about it's quality. The word Beta just messes with my perfection OCD.
