Pioneer BDR-208 (rebadged as ASUS BW-12D1S-U) manufactured in 2013, possible to do UHD?

#1 Post by opticalhoarder » Sun Jun 29, 2025 2:28 pm

As per the subject, I've got ASUS BW-12D1S-U drive that is a rebadged Pioneer BDR-208. Manufacture date is mid 2013.

Can this ancient drive be flashed to do UHD?

Info from MKV:
Drive Information
OS device name: K:
Manufacturer: ASUS
Product: BW-12D1S-U
Revision: E301
Serial number: xxxxxxxxxxxx
Firmware date: 2013-02-25
Bus encryption flags: 13
Highest AACS version: 77

LibreDrive Information
Status: Enabled
Drive platform: RS8301
Firmware name: PIONEER BDR-208
Firmware type: Original (unpatched)
Firmware version: E301/ID71
DVD all regions: Yes
BD raw data read: Yes
BD raw metadata read: Yes

No disc inserted
Also, this drive brings back some memories. Back when the MyCE forums were still up (I think in 2021, based on the dates on some files), I was contacted by Blackened2687 about dumping this drive. This drive was subsequently dumped with Blackened2687's "Pioneer Data Dumper" tool, and I sent the firmware back in. Maybe this drive even contributed to some of the efforts in unlocking Pioneer drives!

Which error? Did you make sure no disc in drive and tray is closed?

You were right, there was a disc in the tray I did not know about.

It worked great after that1

Thank you,
