Wrong number of Chapters detected

#1 Post by Mothra » Mon Apr 04, 2011 6:42 pm

I've decrypted the main feature of Avatar Collector's Extended Edition; however the chapter markers seem to be wrong. In the Blu-ray menu, there are 42 chapters for the extended edition, but MakeMKV "detects" 72 chapters. When I look at these chapters, many of them are only a few seconds long and the start points are in the middle of the "real" chapters (as they appear in a Blu-ray player).

Is there a fix/workaround for this?

Hi!

Sounds like you're comparing/confusing "Titles" as listed by MakeMKV with "Chapters" as displayed by movie playback...

Ok, let me put it another way:

After processing the BD, I get:

Title - 1 chapter(s), 845.2MB
Title - 1 chapter(s), 1.5GB
Title - 1 chapter(s), 636.1MB
Title - 1 chapter(s), 2.3GB
Title - 1 chapter(s), 1.2GB
Title - 71 chapter(s), 38.3GB
Title - 56 chapter(s), 35.9GB
Title - 1 chapter(s), 923.8MB
Title - 1 chapter(s), 1.2GB
Title - 1 chapter(s), 5.8GB
Title - 1 chapter(s), 2.1GB
Title - 1 chapter(s), 10.4GB
Title - 1 chapter(s), 2.5GB
Title - 1 chapter(s), 2.4GB
Title - 1 chapter(s), 2.2GB
Title - 1 chapter(s), 1.9GB
Title - 1 chapter(s), 3.6GB
Title - 1 chapter(s), 1.8GB
Title - 72 chapter(s), 39.8GB

That last one is the Collector's extended edition, and it's showing 72 chapters. When I make an MKV out of it, it has 72 chapters, but this movie on the Blu-ray disc only has 42 chapters. When I play the file and select some of those chapters, many start in spurious places in the middle of scenes.

I haven't had problems with other Blu-rays so far, so I think Make MKV is getting it wrong for this particular BD, hence the posting. Additionally, if I rip the film using Moyea/Aunsoft/etc Blu-ray Ripper, I get the correct number of chapters.

FWIW, the 71 chapter title is the director's cut and the 56 chapter title is the original theatrical edition. Again, both of these have the wrong number of chapters compared to the actual films when played in a Blu-ray player.

The problem still exists with current version of MakeMKV (1.9.9)
