Dealing with those purple DVD-R disks?

#1 Post by m1unch » Fri Jan 19, 2024 4:16 am

Has anyone figured out a reliable way to deal with those purple DVD-R disks? Or for that matter, a less than reliable way that works sometimes, because what I've got going on now is nothing. Multiple disks. Multiple drives. Cleaned. Multiple seasons of same show, but all on those purple disks. Ubuntu recognizes the disks in the drive. MakeMKV acknowledges the disk, but won't finish loading it.

End up with ten of these.

Calculated BUP offset for VTS #0 does not match one in IFO header.

Calculated BUP offset for VTS #3 does not match one in IFO header.

Calculated BUP offset for VTS #4 does not match one in IFO header.

Thanks for any suggestions.

The issue is whether the disk was "completed" in its write.

Some disks are distributed as DVD-Rs, when they're low volume. These are generally "complete", i.e., like regular DVDs, all parts are there, including the encryption.

Some disks are incomplete, missing key parts. Often, these are just data disks, which can play. Ripping these is going to depend upon how complete they are. Some play just fine, but are missing sections. They may not be encrypted.
