Trouble ripping Dune (2021)

Hi,
I am attempting to rip Dune (2021 reboot) Blu-ray using an ASUS BW-16D1X-U. It has ripped many Blu-ray discs without issue before. I'm noticing that CSS/CPPM protection is denoted in the "pre-rip" window. Here is a screenshot of the before and after a rip attempt.

I have cleaned the disc, increased my number of read retries to 9, and attempted several iterations of source content ripping. All attempts end about 40% into the rip with an error message "0 titles saved, 1 failed".

The main errors are:

• Error 'Scsi error - ILLEGAL REQUEST:INVALID FIELD IN CDB' occurred while reading '/VIDEO_TS/VTS_04_1.VOB' at offset '3354787840'

• Error 'OS error - The specified request is not a valid operation for the target device' occurred while reading '\Device\CdRom0' at offset '3354787840'

I'm curious if there's any additional troubleshooting I can perform? Has anyone successfully ripped the Blu-ray of this disc? Thank you for your time and assistance.

Is the drive powered by USB? If so, make sure it is plugged into a FULLY POWERED USB (if it's USB 3) or a pair of FULLY POWERED USB (for USB 2).

When drives start spinning at "top speed" (usually far out in the read), they can exceed the power fed by a single USB 2.x port.

It looks to be an ASUS BW-16D1X-U which appears to come with its own 12v 3A power brick.

What happens if you try to make a decrypted backup of the DVD? And then create your .mkv file from the backup?

This is correct, it's an externally powered optical drive. It is a blu-ray disc, not a DVD. I am unfamiliar with making decrypted backups of a disc; this is done in MakeMKV or something else? I would be willing to try this, just need to know what to use.

Your screenshot shows the disc type is DVD-ROM, not a blu-ray disc, hence my assumption.

In any case, making a backup is a thing you can do with MakeMKV. After you insert a disc into your drive, click the 2nd from the left icon at the top. It is the one that is a yellow folder with a green arrow. On the window that appears, make sure the decrypted box is checked.

For DVDs MakeMKV will create an .iso file and for blu-rays, it creates a folder (generally called a BDMV folder). Either way, it should be a complete copy of the contents of the disc, sans encryption. MakeMKV can open these backups and make .mkv files from them just like it does from the actual discs.

Thank you for the clarification. I have attempted to perform a backup of the blu-ray (not sure why it shows DVD-ROM). The result is here:

Any ideas?

Thank you very much for the assistance. I was able to figure this all out. The disc I received was from a blu-ray case, but not labeled. Upon further inspection, the disc was indeed a DVD, and not a blu-ray as marked. When I returned the disc and mentioned my trouble, the correct disc was provided to me. I tried the rip again, and it worked. Thanks dcoke22 for pointing out that little clue to help me figure it all out.
