MKV playback causing XBMC to crash

#1 Post by tickett » Wed Feb 02, 2011 10:32 pm

So i've just started ripping my collection using MakeMKV and seem to be struggling to play the MKVs back on my XBMC live. I haven't had any trouble playing anything else back on it in the past.

I'm using 1.6.3 on both OSX and Windows 7. Two discs that crash everytime i press up (seeks 20minutes through roughly i think): Pitch Black HDDVD and RayHDDVD.

When i ripped them i just picked the main film track and all audio & subtitles.

Any ideas?

I've ripped in the past by simply copying the .m2ts or .evo file(s) i think and everything worked but was a little messy having multiple files not in a universal container.

Thanks
L

HI!

I'm not familiar with "Pitch Black". I can, however, tell you that ALL formats/versions (DVD, Blu-ray, HD-DVD) of "Ray" have proven to be problematic (some, even for simply viewing the original disc on a standalone player) due to the abundance of extra scenes that the viewer can choose to add "on the fly" (while viewing). The use of seamless branching and/or angles may be problematic for conversion programs...

Excellent- thanks!

So far these seem to work fine:
Be Kind Rewind
Man on Fire
Identity

And these don't work:
Ray (Crashes during playback)
Pitch Black (Crashes during playback)
Austin Powers (MakeMKV doesn't see the disc)
Smokin' Aces (Crashes during playback)
Memento (MakeMKV doesn't see the disc)
Goodfellas (MakeMKV doesn't see the disc)

So it's not looking great! Any suggestions? It's not only MakeMKV that doesn't see the discs, anyDVD HD doesn't either.

Thanks

Could the drive trying to read the discs be faulty or the discs scratched ?

Try running the files created from MakeMKV through MKVmerge and generate a new file from that, see if it still crashes.

Firmware upgrade seems to've done the trick with regard to not seeing discs :)

The films that crash XBMC i will try MKVMerge ASAP. Will i need to pick any settings etc?

Thanks
