Question about firmware and read speed on BU40N (Archgon Drive)

#1 Post by Steve-luo » Thu Apr 30, 2020 6:08 pm

I'm still quite new about BluRay drives and ripping.

I recently purchased a Archgon MD-8107S-U3-UHD which is an LG BU40N on the inside. I flashed the DE_LG_BU40N_1.00 firmware and it works well.

One thing not so well would be the reading speed. On the product page, it states the drive can reach 6x speed for most BDs and 4x for BD-RE TL, but I can only get around 4x speed with MakeMKV on macOS.

My question is 1) Is this re-branded LG BU40N compatible with the MK firmware? If so, which one (-B, -FR, -N, -R, -U)?
And 2) Would a firmware update fix the read speed issue? Or is there no issue at all because decryption hurts read speed?

It work with mk N firmware.
It should read at 6x max the beging of rip should start at like 3.6 then work its way up to 6 then back down towards end on tripplyer disks that happens 3 times.
The mk firmware likely won't fix your issue but it won't hurt to try.
The drive is likely slowing down because it's having a hard time reading disk
