UHD Drive clarification for ripping 4K UHD discs

#1 Post by LGans316 » Thu Apr 16, 2020 4:33 pm

Hope you are safe and well.

I did go through the UHD drive sticky thread but ultimately I am confused.

I am looking to buying this drive Archgon md-8107s-u3-uhd https://www.amazon.co.uk/Archgon-Extern ... 07Q65WJXC/ to rip my 4K UHD Blu-rays.

Wondering if MakeMKV will work with this drive out of the box without any flashing?

No, it will not. Drive manufacturers/distributors have patched the loophole that allows for UHD BD ripping on compatible drives they ship long ago. Hence, why the topic of flashing/re-flashing is still so actively discussed within the walls of this forum.

If you are unsure you are capable of flashing a drive, forum members provide "ready-to-go" services here:

Additionally, drive topics usually go here:

You just posted in the UHD discs forum, which is typically used to discuss discs and/or disc related problems.
