Rogue One "corrupt or invalid offset" errors

#1 Post by jrobicheaux » Mon Apr 10, 2017 11:05 pm

Brand new out of the case BD from Walmart. MakeMKV found 10 titles, based on this forum I selected stream 800. Conversion progresses until 00814.m2ts where unending stream of these error messages appear.

The source file '/BDMV/STREAM/00814.m2ts' is corrupt or invalid at offset 3417452544, attempting to work around
The source file '/BDMV/STREAM/00814.m2ts' is corrupt or invalid at offset 3417452544, attempting to work around
The source file '/BDMV/STREAM/00814.m2ts' is corrupt or invalid at offset 3417452544-3417458688, attempting to work around
The source file '/BDMV/STREAM/00814.m2ts' is corrupt or invalid at offset 3417458688, attempting to work around
The source file '/BDMV/STREAM/00814.m2ts' is corrupt or invalid at offset 3417458688, attempting to work around

The source file '/BDMV/STREAM/00814.m2ts' is corrupt or invalid at offset 3417458688, attempting to work around
...and so forth

Any ideas?

Lots of ideas, and not much to help narrow it down. Have you looked at this thread yet? http://makemkv.com/forum2/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=15055

I did. None seemed to apply. I'll see if it play in my Blu Ray player on my home theater.

If multiple rips always stop at the same offset, there is probably a disk issue. If the offset moves round, it can be a dirty disk or a drive power issue, but you didn't specify what type of drive you have and didn't post the part of the log that tells us.

Has any one successfully ripped Rogue One yet? I have a copy coming in the mail and was curious. Thank you.

I posted the original trouble report. I was eventually successful although I don't know which of the following if any helped.

1. I successfully played the BluRay on a BR player. This at least showed there were no gross issues with the media.
2. I wiped the disk with a microfiber cloth.
3. Under preferences/IO I bumped up the retry count to 25 as suggested in the FAQs
4. Reloaded in MakeMKV and ripped title 00800 successfully, this time with no errors of any kind.

Good luck.

Ripped fine for me and converted to h.265 in Handbrake with no issues.

I know this is an old post but I'm having the same problem with the same disc. My search has not found anything new so I was wondering if someone can help me. I have tried all the suggested fixes for this problem to no avail. One thing I have not seen anywhere else is that MakeMKV eventually freezes during the rip. When I click the stop sign to quit the process it asks me to confirm that I want to stop and when I click yes nothing happens. I have to exit the program but even then it continues running in the background. The only way to get out is to go to the Windows Task Manager and click "end task". It also keeps writing to the MakeMKV log file until I end task in Task Manager. Because of that the log file is extremely long and I had to edit it in order to attach it but here it is:
MakeMKV_log_RogueOneBR(edited).txt
(741.97 KiB) Downloaded 486 times
To answer and questions you might have in advance I am running Windows 10 with all updates, I have thoroughly cleaned the disc, I can play the disc in its entirety in by Blu ray player with no issues, and I have had no problems ripping any other discs with this blu ray drive/computer combination.

Thanks in advance for any help you, the collective, may offer.

Tom

According to your log, there are 69 separate areas where the drive has to work VERY HARD to pull data off the disk. The fact that it moves along indicates that the drive has some success at it, but it should not have to struggle that much.

If you've already cleaned the disk and it is struggling this hard, replacing the disk would be recommended. Rogue One doesn't have anything special as far as copy protection.

Thanks for the reply. I will replace it and hopefully have better luck with another disc.
